A bottle opener is a specialized lever that is used to remove the sealed cap of various kinds of bottles. A bottle cap can be made of metal or a cork even a plastic stopper, affixed around the rim of the container. Even bottle openers are also used to have corkscrews to remove the cork or plastic stoppers of a typical wine bottle. The bottle opener just uses a point on the metallic cap of the bottle as a fulcrum on which it pivots.
In the following section, I would talk more about the technique and varieties of it.
A bottle opener is the most straightforward lever that uses Newtonian principle. If the fulcrum is the far end of the bottle opener, then one pushes up on the opener, which we can mark as a ‘second-class lever.’ It can also be used as a ‘first-class lever’ just by placing the near end on the top of the crown and placing the far end the oppositely. Thus, in this case, one pushes down. Also, there is the contemporary bar-blade which is curved on one side which sits in the middle of the crown, on which the pressure is concentrated.
Different types of bottle openers
Though the functional element can remain constant, i.e., a lever to catch the fulcrum of the bottle caps, upon which the pressure would be applied to open up a bottle cap; this can be of various types. Some of the well-known types of the bottle openers are,
The Crown Cork Opener – this form of bottle openers often comes with a tray to catch the bottle caps. It is a class II type fulcrum. It can be a fixed one attached to a vertical surface or can be a portable one.
Speed Opener– this is a first class lever mostly used by the professional bartenders, and it is useful for opening several bottles with equal ease. It comes in a letterbox cut in one end with a thumb-hole at the other end.
Simple Bottle Opener –this type of opener consists of a rectangular or a rounded opening at one end where the pressure concentrates and a simple handle at the other. It is one of the durable types which are frequently used.
There are also other types of bottle opener available as well, for example, we can mention The Wall-Mounted Bottle Opener or a Multi-Opener (which is also known as Beverage Opener) and so on.
Personalized bottle openers
There are also bottle openers of personalized type, by saying this I mean specially designed for a social occasion such as wedding or birthday or other events, which comes with engraving on it. One can order a custom-designed bottle opener for weddings or anniversary or just a holiday celebration as well and can get the product, which is also available in different color options. So in choosing a bottle opener, you should keep in mind what you want out of it just a lever or more than that.
