Opening the 2nd annual NY Indie Theatre Film Festival, Tuesday, Jan. 30, at New Ohio Theatre following the screening of Across the Universe, Ms. Taymor, who is perhaps most well-known for her Tony-winning work creating The Lion King for Broadway, made theatre in downtown NYC in the 1980s at places like Theatre for A New Audience, The Public Theater (NYSF), La Mama E.T.C., and The Ark Theatre Company. Her films include Titus, Frida, Across The Universe, and The Tempest.

2018 marks 10 years since the release of Across the Universe, which uses the music of The Beatles and the backdrop of the Vietnam war to tell the story of a group of friends moving through the counter-culture of the 1960s.
