Ask Sam: Freedom

Ask Sam: Freedom

This year I ran the American Heart Association 2017 Wall Street 5K in 37:44. Not my fastest time. I was running with many injuries, nor did I train as much as I would have liked to. All things considered, I am pleased with my results. I have to remind myself that it’s just great I’m still running.

This is a personal journey for me. I’m living proof of what lots of exercise, a plant based diet and advancements in medicine can do.  A quest to heal and strengthen has become part of my lifestyle and is reflected in my  cooking, some of the choices I make, and time spent exercising. A healthy lifestyle.
The word “lifestyle” gets used a lot, but what does is really mean? It refers to the mode/fashion by which we live. Your personality, values and interests shine forth in how you present yourself, inhabit your space and interact with the world around you. In this country, we are lucky to be “free-ish”. We have the freedom to pursue our happiness. Provided we can create the opportunity to do so. Our founding fathers understood lifestyle. Perhaps those forward thinking men wanted to preserve their right to continue w/ their experiments and new ideas. Maybe they had a party cite we don’t know about. Although we are far from being a utopian society. We should be grateful for the wiggle room we do have and that progress continues. How important an ideal it is to live as who really are. It is the greatest luxury. The chance to live a fulfilling life is the greatest freedom.
I want us to be free, from the dictate of the season’s hemlines, calorie counting and self loathing.
The whole reason I started writing, was to have a voice with an uncensored platform to express sometimes controversial issues, comment on matters we might think but not say out loud or simply to share whats on my mind.
I wish we could live in a place where we are truly free, from financial burdens, to have our orgasms how we like as long as we are not hurting anyone. Free to an education, to create, to play, to be ourselves, to nourish ourselves with clean food and water. Free from misogynistic, totalitarian, rule and all of its ridiculousness. What a better worldtone would be if it were run by women! Free from hate. Free to wear what I please. Can you imagine how amazing we all might look if everyday we wore what we felt like wearing or were inspired by? I suspect, society would look more like the Halloween parade but less scary, or not, but definitely spectacular!
My whole life has been about helping people live the best version of themselves so they can live their best life. Live your lifestyle with style!
