Ask Sam: Nolcha’s Young Designers On The Go

Ask Sam: Nolcha’s Young Designers On The Go

I always enjoy Nolcha’s “Ones to Watch” fashion shows. I like to see if there’s a common thread through the minds of young designers at the moment. Could there be “something in the air” towards a movement in fashion. Most of all, I like to see talent on the rise. Nolcha’s “Ones to Watch” is the place for that.
This year, the designs of ACID NYC, Chèlbè, Just In Case, Lavanya Coodly, Mariana Valentina, Promgirl/Promguy, Samantha Leibowitz, Son Collection, and Stevenson University School of Design Fashion Design program were showcased.

I saw a lot of dramatic silhouettes this season, capes, trains, flowy things, peplums and an interesting use of materials. There was defiantly a dramatic flair to a lot of what was shown and lots of color was bursting into view.

In men’s wear, also saw some reverse pleats on trousers.  If there was one trend amongst the shows this Fashion Week Fall Winter 2017, there was no trend. Fashion seemed very much in style of free spirits and what it pleased designer to designer.
