Congratulations to writer Joel Vig who won the Judges Choice Award in the Dan’s Papers Literary Award for Non-Fiction. The awards ceremony was held at the John Drew Theatre in Guild Hall in East Hampton on Thursday, August 31st, 2017, at 4:00 PM. This year marked the 5th anniversary of the event which boasts the highest cash awards in the country for non fiction writers. The contest has a separate division for young and emerging writers, 25 years old and younger. Between February 1 and August 14, 2017, hundreds of authors sent in pieces for consideration. All pieces were required to reference eastern Long Island in a meaningful way. The judges for this years event were the founder of Dan’s Papers, Dan Rattiner, Dan’s Papers CEO Eric Feil, Stony Brook Southampton professor Andrew Botsford, and celebrated non fiction author Daniel Simone. Mr. Vig’s piece entitled “She Was Dancing On The Edge,” is a haunting memory of Marilyn Monroe recounted to Mr. Vig by celebrated stage and film actress Joan Copeland, Marilyn Monroe’s sister in law. Mr. Vig ‘s winning entry along with the other winning entries will soon be posted on the Dan’s Papers web site, with publication in the hard copy of Dan’s Papers magazine to happen later in the year.
