Tickets for Disney’s DIS, -0.67% upcoming Broadway musical “Frozen” went on sale and already, the resale market is overheated. Demand for the stage version of the highest-grossing animated movie in history was always going to be high. But the show, which starts performances at Broadway’s St. James Theatre, almost completely sold out for its first five months within hours of tickets going on sale.
The demand to see “Frozen” between February and July 2018 is so high that Ticketmaster’s verified resale program — which permits tickets to be resold by third-party sellers has balcony seats at the back of the 1,710-seat auditorium going for almost $10,000 each on select dates close to the show’s mid-March opening.
Even thought the movie stared Kristen Bell and Broadway stars Idina Menzel, Jonathan Groff, Santino Fontana and Josh Gad, not one is in the Broadway version.
The Frozen team that worked on the movie is also on the stage musical: Including music and lyrics by husband and wife team Kristen Anderson Lopez and Bobby Lopez Tony-winning director Michael Grandage, choreographer Rob Ashford, and scenic/costume designer Christopher Oram.
