Dîner en Blanc Illuminates at Lincoln Center

Dîner en Blanc Illuminates at Lincoln Center

Last night Lincoln Center was taken over by one of the most elegant parties in the world. The legendary Dîner en Blanc selected the landmark destination of music and dance to host their own artful evening.

Over 5,000 food lovers, fashionistas and cultural enthusiasts attended the epic moment. Gathering from all the corners of the New York came a flood of guests dressed in white from head to toe. They carried with them their elaborate picnic pieces for a beautiful evening of dining and dancing under the August sky.

Across the planet 120,000 participants took part in the world-wide phenomena. Taking place in six continents and 79 cities across the globe is what is considered one of the most sophisticated experiences on the books.

In New York City, James Beard Winner Todd English curated special meals that were toasted to with champagne and flowing wines. New York was the first city in America to host Le Dîner en Blanc, and it takes that credit seriously.

“Because New York was the first in America you always think fondly about the night in New York,’” stated Host Gilles Amsallem. “People come from all of the other US cities just to be here in New York. They even come from abroad. The image is spectacular.”

This year there were even a few surprises adding to the mainstream itinerary of classic opera singers and musical performers. A lively drum set was added that paraded around Lincoln Center and had the crowd dancing on their feet. There was also a lovely pop-up by Cover Girl, where guests took home make-up samples and experienced an exquisite photo booth.

Launched in Paris in 1988 by François Pasquier and a handful of friends, Le Dîner en Blanc has become a worldwide epicurean phenomenon. Le Dîner en Blanc – Paris now attracts over 10,000 people each year. What was a “friends and word-of-mouth only” event has grown into an international sensation celebrated on six continents. While the technology behind the event may have changed over the years, the principles fuelling this magical event have not: guests continue to gather at a secret location for the sole purpose of sharing a gourmet meal with good friends in one of their city’s most beautiful public spaces. Each event is headed by passionate local organizers who fell in love with the concept and wanted to bring it to their city, giving this rendezvous a local flair.

Here is to a beautiful year in white.
