Dorothy Dandrige was a Hollywood actress, best known for being the first African-American to be nominated for Academy Award for her performance in the 1954  film “Camen Jones.” In 1959 she was a Golden Globe nominee  for her  role in “Porgy and Bess.” She died under mysterious  circumstances at age 42 in 1965. During the filming of “Porgy and Bess,” she and her director Otto Preminger became lovers. Their  tumultuous relationship cause Dorothy great deal of emotional  pain. Even though she rose to great fame, it did not prevent her from  suffering humiliation from Hollywood’s racial discrimination of the time.
