Dorothy Dandrige and N’Kenge Headed for London


Blacks on Wall Street with Albridge Investors staged a presentation of  celebrating the legacy of Dorothy Dandridge at Theater 80 located in the St Marks Theater. This bio-musical is bound for London for the 2018  season. Dorothy Dandrige will be played by Broadway star N’Kenge.



The book, music and lyrics are by award-winning playwright/composer Robert Mitchell (Vincent, Frankenstein), and will be directed by Jerry Foley (Late Show with David Letterman) and choreographed by Alessaandro Pellicani (Studio 54: The Musical) with music supervision by Rob Berman (Bright Star, New York City Encores!) and musical direction by Josh Kight.

This West End- and Broadway-bound musical is led by Tony and Olivier winning executive producer Julian Stoneman (Jersey Boys, Mamma Mia, Rock of Ages) and Tony-nominated producer Richard Bell (Bubbling Brown Sugar).

The cast

Internationally acclaimed and Helen Hayes nominee N’Kenge (Motown: The Musical, Sondheim and Sondheim) will play the title role of Dorothy Dandridge, Dan Grimaldi (The Sopranos) will play Otto Preminger. The cast is completed by Erin Sullivan (Shrek) as Marilyn Monroe, Becca Fox (Peter Pan) as Vivian Dandridge, Brian Davis (After Midnight) as Harold Nicholas, Christopher Figaro Jackson (Alvin Ailey) as Fayard Nicholas and Christian Rozakis (Metropolitan Opera) as James Mason.

Dorothy Dandrige was a Hollywood actress, best known for being the first African-American to be nominated for Academy Award for her performance in the 1954  film “Camen Jones.” In 1959 she was a Golden Globe nominee  for her  role in “Porgy and Bess.” She died under mysterious  circumstances at age 42 in 1965. During the filming of “Porgy and Bess,” she and her director Otto Preminger became lovers. Their  tumultuous relationship cause Dorothy great deal of emotional  pain. Even though she rose to great fame, it did not prevent her from  suffering humiliation from Hollywood’s racial discrimination of the time.


Magda Katz has been in the entertainment world for most of her life as a child actress, assistant to the head publicist of Avco Embassy Pictures, theatrical print agent. She went on to manage the show business career of her 2 children for over 15 years. For the last five years Magda has been filming and editing video trailers of live performances as well as celebrity interviews. Broadway After Dark was the first website to feature her video trailers. She contributed in creating a star studded 90th birthday party for Mickey Rooney at Feinstein’s at the Regency Hotel.
