G Lounge Celebrates 16th Anniversary with Johnny Weir, Michael Musto and More

Johnny Weir, Michael McGrail, David Paul KayG Lounge in New York City celebrated its 16th anniversary last night with over 100 guests celebrating at the famed Chelsea lounge.

Olympic figure skating champagne Johnny Weir and G Lounge’s owner Michael McGrail welcomed artist David Paul Kay, DJ Bill Coleman, Michael Musto, singer/songwriter Lori Michaels and Michelle Javian.

“Any institution that can stay open 16 years in New York has my respect,” said Weir. “It is a cornerstone for the gay community. I had to be here tonight to help celebrate.”

McGrail unveiled Kay’s The Destination in honor of the special night. The massive 5,000+ square foot floor-to-ceiling continuous work of art created with enamel on canvas that is the first of its kind in the world.

Michael Musto“People have always loved coming here,” stated McGrail. “It does not matter if you are gay or straight. It a respectable place to be and I am proud of that.”

Guests were greeted by handsome bartenders who served up Absolut cocktails and frozen cosmos all night. Weir joined Nightlife Hall of Fame inductee DJ Coleman in the DJ booth where he serenaded the crowd with his special rendition of Happy Birthday.

G Lounge is New York City’s first upscale gay lounge, which has thrived in the neighborhood despite the changing demographics in Chelsea over the years.
