Happy Earth Day Creates Major Travel Woes

Happy Earth Day Creates Major Travel Woes

Scientists have taken to the streets of New York and around the world Saturday in defense of scientific work and U.S. government budget cuts. The March for Science began with a rally at 10:30 a.m. near Columbus Circle at Central Park West. Thousands of participants walked down Broadway to 52nd Street and have gathered, making matinee day a hassle.

Car Free Earth Day is taking away more than 30 blocks of Broadway between 17th and 47th streets and nine blocks of St. Nicholas Avenue between 181st and 190th streets..

The Sikh Cultural Society annual parade and festival, the Chelsea Jewish Center’s Sixth Avenue Festival shuts down a couple of streets for their 27th Annual Upper Broadway Spring Festival. Marchers take up Madison Avenue from 24th to 38th streets and the adjacent blocks on 36th, 37th, and 38th streets.

The Chelsea Jewish Center will be using Sixth Avenue between 23rd and 32nd streets.

On Sunday, Manhattan hosts an immigrants’ rights march, the West Side Spring Festival and the 911 Memorial 5K.
