New York Fashion week is one of the fashion world’s most anticipated and exciting events. This year was no different, with new faces and brands from around the world.
Among the newcomers was Ira & Sonya, a brand that made their debut this spring. Founded by Irina Proskurina, the brand aims to be a trailblazer in the world of mother-daughter fashion, bringing affordable styles to new mothers and their daughters.
Looking at the designs, it’s clear that Ira & Sonya has a grasp on what makes classic patterns so well-loved. Floral prints abounded, with tones ranging from soft pastels to bold reds and blues.
Being both a model and a new mother herself, Ira, noticed a disparity in the amount of fashion available for mother-daughter pairs, “I noticed there were a lot of great photographers for mother-daughter shoots, but there weren’t any good clothing brands to make them stand out.”
Inspired by her own newborn daughter, Ira set out to make affordable fashion readily available that catered to both moms and their daughters, “the clothing is made from hypoallergenic silk and wool—so it’s perfect for babies.”
When they took the stage last week, model moms donned beautiful dresses and floral crowns as they carried their children, in matching designs, down the catwalk—a refreshing and humanizing sight for those in attendance.
This display comes a mere three months after Ira & Sonya made their first designs. If it’s any indication of what the future holds for Proskurina and her daughter, we can certainly expect to see more great designs soon.
