Tonight Broadway triple-threat Judine Somerville took center stage at Barclays Center to sing the National Anthem on December 12 at 7:30pm as the Brooklyn Nets take on the Washington Wizards. This performance is especially exciting, as her humble beginnings began only twelve blocks away in the Lafayette Gardens Housing Projects, affectionately known as LG.

Using her personal story of growing up in an under-served community in Bed-Stuy Brooklyn and making it to the Great White Way, Judine continues to inspire young people in similar circumstances to aim high and reach for the stars, regardless of their situation.

She has developed three programs each aimed at addressing certain social issues impacting young people.

You Can’t Stop The Beat was created to address the issue of bullying by using dance and movement to enhance self-confidence and self- esteem.

Bridges in Rhythm is a high energy and fast paced workout session designed to invigorate and stimulate the student’s ability to concentrate and learn. This program is scheduled in the mornings before students begin class.

Broadway State of Mind is a Master Class created for those interested in Musical Theatre as a career.

Passionate about each child receiving the best education for their particular learning style, Judine is also creating the You Can’t Stop The Beat Foundation which will address Parental Empowerment, Learning Differences, the Arts and Sports.

Judine has used every role she has ever landed to demonstrate to the audiences she addresses that all things are possible when you believe in yourself, commit to the task at hand, and develop a good work ethic.

Judine is the recipient of the Steven Goldberg Award as well as the F. Lammont Belin Arts Scholarship.  She has performed in five original Broadway musicals including the eight-time Tony Award winning Hairspray, where she was part of the singing trio sensation ‘The Dynamites’.  She was also invited to reprise her roll for NBC-TV’s live presentation Hairspray Live directed by Kenny Leon and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell which included an amazing group of talented performers: Harvey Fierstein, Martin Short, Jennifer Hudson, Kristin Chenoweth, Ariana Grande, Andrea Martin, Sean Hayes and Rosie O’Donnell.

A former Rockette at Radio City, she is also known as an inspiring motivational speaker who is invited to speak across the country at professional events and schools.
