Labor Day Shopping

The Labor Day weekend brings out sales and discounts, but that doesn’t mean every item is a good buy.

The best deals are on summer items that need to make room for winter and holiday displays. Here is what to buy and deals galore.

Buy: Summer clothes. Check the sale racks at stores like Gap and Macy’s to find good bargains, as well as the “sale” sections of their websites. Deep discounts are expected at outdoors retailers such as L.L. Bean and Eddie Bauer.

2nd Time Around: Take up to 70% off summer clearance items through Monday, September 7th.

American Two Shot: 50% off select summer product through Monday, September 7th.

Anthom: Take 20% off the entire store, including new fall items through Monday, September 7th.

Athleta: Take 20% off full-priced sport bras and support tops in stores and online with the code SUPPORT through Monday, September 7th.

Banana Republic: Take 40% off your purchase in stores and online through Tuesday, September 8th.

Bandier: Up to 50% off retail prices on select items in the Flatiron store and up to 40% off select styles online through Monday, September 7th.

Dune London: Deep discounts on footwear. For women: Ankle boots are $50, calf boots are $60, over-the-knee boots are $70, and all other shoes are $30. Buy: Grills, Target is offering up to 20 percent off grills and grilling accessories, while Lowe’s is providing a $100 discount on Weber Genesis gas grills, as well as free delivery and assembly. Last year, Sears and Walmart also offered some good grill deals.

Buy: Mattresses. Mattresses can set back consumers by thousands of dollars, so it makes sense to hunt for a bargain. Sleep Train is offering $400 off some mattresses, as well as selling a queen-sized pillow-top mattress set for $399. Sleepy’s is cutting prices by half in its Labor Day sale.

Avoid: Anything fall-related. Apple devices. Apple unveils their new phones in a couple of weeks, which means older models will be discounted later in the year. Apple is expected to roll out an all-new MacBook Pro this fall as well. Toys. The holiday season will offer better deals, so wait until the official kickoff with Black Friday sales.
