Meet The Team Behind The Boy Who Danced On Air

Abingdon Theatre Company is producing the New York premiere of The Boy Who Danced On Air, a musical love story set in rural Afghanistan. The Boy Who Danced On Air features music by Tim Rosser and a book and lyrics by Charlie Sohne, the winners of 2015 Jonathan Larson and Mary Rodgers/Lorenz Hart Awards.  T2C had a chance to talk to these up and coming songwriting team.

The Boy Who Danced On Air follows the chance meeting of Paiman (to be played by Iwata) and Feda (to be played by Saboo), who spent their childhoods as bacha bazi dancers—a world where wealthy men take in boys from poor families and often abuse them. The show is a musical fable about love, tradition, morality, and the strength of the human spirit.

Reprising their roles from the world premiere in San Diego will be Troy Iwata and The Band’s Visit’s Jonathan Raviv. Rounding out the cast of the Off-Broadway engagement will be Osh Ghanimah, Deven Kolluri, and Nikhil Saboo. Tony Speciale will direct.

The Boy Who Danced On Air: The June Havoc Theatre, 312 West 36th St. Performances began May 15 in the June Havoc Theatre prior to an official opening May 25.
