Seaport Summer 2018

The Howard Hughes Corporation® (NYSE: HHC) announced today the details for Seaport Summer 2018, a seasonal series of experiences and partnerships that will be unveiled in the Seaport District, including the new Pier 17. A dynamic destination that will have a unique mix of entertainment, culture, shopping and dining, the Seaport District is emerging as a new hub and community anchor in Lower Manhattan.

New Yorkers and visitors alike will find a multitude of exciting summer activations and events. Upcoming openings on Pier 17 include the Heineken® Riverdeck, Market Hall, the Chase Sapphire Lounge, and the recently announced Pier 17 Rooftop Summer Concert Series in partnership with Live Nation. In celebration of summer, the Seaport District will host the Color Block Party featuring a one-of-a-kind art installation by celebrated artist GERONIMO.

“We are pleased to reintroduce our neighbors and welcome newcomers to this iconic part of New York, which is a symbol of Lower Manhattan’s continued resurgence and will serve as a vibrant hub and must-visit destination for people all over the city,” said Saul Scherl, President of the New York Tri-State Region, The Howard Hughes Corporation. “By enabling New Yorkers to reconnect with their city’s waterfront and its storied history, we look forward to re-establishing the Seaport District as a port of discovery and essential part of New York.”

The Howard Hughes Corporation is proud to welcome Chase, Heineken, PepsiCo, and The Lincoln Motor Company as founding partners of the Seaport District as part of Seaport Summer 2018.

Seaport Summer 2018 will kick off with the opening of the Heineken Riverdeck on June 15. Located on the north side of Pier 17, the Heineken Riverdeck will feature spectacular views of the Brooklyn and the Manhattan Bridges, as well as seasonal food and handcrafted specialty drinks by Pier 17 Mixologist Mark Murphy, a veteran bartender of Starr Restaurants and Saxon + Parole, most recently recognized for his cocktails and curation of the extensive agave spirits collection at El Vez.

“Heineken has a proven track record as a brand dedicated to live entertainment and elevating the fan experience across a multitude of events, festivals and concerts,” said Pattie Falch, Director of Sponsorships and Events at HEINEKEN USA. “We’re excited to continue this legacy through our partnership with The Howard Hughes Corporation and a summer packed with incredible experiences within one of New York’s most iconic settings.”

Starting June 28, Chase Sapphire cardmembers can experience the new Chase Sapphire Lounge, located on the northeast side of Pier 17. For a second consecutive year, Sapphire cardmembers can show their card for access to this lounge, which comes with a number of unique benefits including dedicated bar service and a private seating area.  New this year, cardmembers will also have access to Sapphire Sunday celebrations, featuring special cardmember offers at a variety of Seaport shops and restaurants beginning Sunday, July 8.

In celebration of summer, the Seaport District will hold a Color Block Party on Saturday, June 30 in partnership with acclaimed artist GERONIMO, who will unveil a new, site-specific work overlooking the East River, based on her trademark massive-scale, colorful sculptures made of recycled, air-inflated balloons. The work of Jihan Zencirli, a Turkish-American artist creating under the moniker GERONIMO, is designed to be democratic in its availability, transforming public spaces into highly engaging artistic experiences.

The all-day party will include a lineup of DJs, as well as social media activations, curated food trucks, signature drink specials and a spectacular entrance by GERONIMO not to be missed.  Guests are encouraged to dress head-to-toe in color-block for a chance to win $1,000 shopping sprees and other prizes spontaneously awarded throughout the day.

Additional Pier 17 features and events include:

Market Hall – a pop-up opening June 15

The Market Hall, located on the north side of Pier 17, will feature handcrafted fun specialty cocktails and all day grab-and-go dining with a globally influenced menu designed to elevate the typical pier fare by integrating innovative seasonal recipes and locally sourced ingredients. The Fulton Stall Market’s Sunday Outdoor Farmers Market is now open for the season every Sunday from 11am – 5:30pm at its new home on Pier 17’s open-air plaza at the intersection of South Street and Fulton Street. The plucky community market, now in its fourth year of serving downtown residents and visitors, features New York farmers with seasonal produce and a host of small-batch specialty food purveyors from NYC and surrounding areas, many based out of the city’s growing number of shared-use incubator kitchens. This year, the Sunday market will include guest chefs from the Seaport District and Lower Manhattan restaurants offering tastes of their menus and featuring local and seasonal ingredients sourced from the market’s farmers. The indoor shop is open daily at 91 South Street.

The South Street Seaport Museum – Opened Daily

The South Street Seaport Museum uses its historic buildings and ships on Pier 16 to provide interactive exhibits and educational experiences. This summer, the museum’s monthly book talk and lecture series will explore New York’s rich maritime history. Additionally, the South Street Seaport Museum is offering three unique walking tours this summer exploring the history of the district, covering both its virtues and vices. The Black Gotham Experience (BGX)

The Black Gotham Experience (BGX) is a visual storytelling project located at 192 Front Street that celebrates the impact of the African Diaspora on New York City created by artist Kamau Ware. A series of walking tours, talkbacks and graphic novels offer visual, theoretical and physical interventions in the cityscape to bring New York’s Black heritage into public consciousness. The Seaport District is New York’s original commercial hub, located on the East River in Lower Manhattan with unparalleled views of the Brooklyn Bridge, the Statue of Liberty, and the city skyline. An essential part of the city for over 300 years, the re-envisioned Seaport District will continue to function as a community anchor and “port of discovery” for the rapidly growing population of Lower Manhattan. The Howard Hughes Corporation® is leveraging the Seaport’s history as the birthplace of innovation as it transforms a district spanning several city blocks, creating more than 400,000 square feet of dynamic culinary, fashion, entertainment and cultural experiences.

Highlighting the revitalized Seaport District is the new Pier 17, poised to become an iconic entertainment destination with a 1.5-acre rooftop that will serve as a year-round community amenity, including a restaurant, outdoor bars and a venue for concerts, cultural and special events. The Pier Village will include waterfront restaurants from culinary powerhouses such as Andrew Carmellini, David Chang of the Momofuku Group, and Jean-Georges Vongerichten. Pier 17 is home to ESPN’s new live broadcast studios.

The Seaport District will be home to the only U.S. location of Carla Sozzani’s pioneering experiential concept store 10 Corso Como, and to a 50,000-square-foot food hall by Jean-Georges in the restored Tin Building. Also located at the Seaport District is Manhattan’s first iPic Theater, the highest grossing location in the premier cinema operator’s portfolio.
