Dear Evan Hansen was the Tony big winner of the night, winning best new musical at the 2017 Tony Awards. This exploration of loneliness, loss and lies and in a high school community, picked up six awards including a best leading actor Tony for the  23-year-old Ben Platt. Mr Platt gives the performance of the year.

In his acceptance speech, maybe the best after Bette Midler. Mr. Platt stated: “To all young people watching at home, don’t waste any time trying to be like anybody but yourself, because the things that make you strange are the things that make you powerful.”
