The TV Musical Is Here To Stay With A Christmas Story, the Musical, Bye Bye Birdie, Rent and Jesus Christ Superstar

Broadway and movie producer Marc Platt has announced that A Christmas Story, the Musical is being made into a TV movie! Marc is producing and it is happening this year! The deal is in place with Warner Brothers and Fox. The tentative air date is December 17, 2017. It will be rewritten into a movie format by writer Jonathan Tolins (Buyer and Seller) and Pasek and Paul (Dear Evan Hansen and La La Land), will be writing additional new songs for the movie.

First, the show will be a live 3-hour musical, like Marc did with Grease, but  then it will be recut into a 2-hour movie for the potential of airing again on Fox for a second and third year.

A Christmas Story, the Musical will be pitted against NBC’s Bye Bye Birdie starring Jennifer Lopez. NBC’s live musical of Jesus Christ Superstar is also planned for Easter 2018. Fox is also planning a live version of Jonathan Larson’s Tony-winning musical Rent.
