Calling all friends, flappers, fly boys and fans of the fabulous — it’s about that time again! With the second and final 11th Bi-Annual Jazz Age Lawn Party on Governors Island on Saturday, August 13th and Sunday, August 14th, By now, I’m sure you’re familiar with this iconic 1920’s Gatsby-inspired afternoon affair, and St-Germain French elderflower liqueur is proud to participate once again!  As always, guests can expect an extravagant weekend of live music by Michael Arenella and his Dreamland Orchestra, along with dancing, gourmet eats, and of course, a variety of Golden Age-inspired cocktails showcasing the annual fete’s official spirit St-Germain (recipes below).  It’ll be the cat’s meow!

The St-Germain Cocktail

2 parts Martini & Rossi Prosecco

1½ parts St-Germain French elderflower liqueur

2 parts sparkling water

Method: Stir ingredients in a tall ice-filled Collins glass, mixing completely. Think of Paris circa 1947. Garnish with a lemon twist.

Variation: Think of Sartre circa 1947. Be the lemon twist.

Flappers Delight

1.5 oz. Bombay Dry Gin
¾ oz. St-Germain French elderflower liqueur
¾ oz. Fresh Lime Juice
¼ oz. Simple Syrup
Fresh mint leaves muddled with simple syrup. Shake and strain into a Collins glass. Top with Sparkling Water. Garnish with a mint sprig. 

Strike Up The Band

1.5 oz. Bombay Dry Gin
¾ oz. St-Germain French elderflower liqueur
¾ oz. Fresh Grapefruit Juice
¼ oz. Fresh Lime Juice
¼ oz. Simple Syrup
Muddle 1 large Strawberry in simple syrup. Shake and strain into a Collins glass. Top with Sparkling Water and garnish with a grapefruit twist.

The 11th Annual Jazz Age Lawn Party will continue with its second event on August 13-14, 2016. Guests will transcend time once upon the shore of Governors Island to celebrate the music and zeitgeist of the 1920s and ‘30s. The romance, joie de vivre and infectious rhythm of that halcyon age come to life once more, as the distractions of the modern world fade away.

·         Annual attractions and contests for individuals, couples and families, including: Bathing Beauties Promenade, Charleston & Peabody Dance Lessons and Contests and “High Court of Pie” Baking Contest

·         Jazz Age-inspired fashions to view and shop

·         Specialty cocktails by St-Germain French Elderflower Liqueur and curated comestibles to create your very own vintage-inspired picnic (bring your own blankets or purchase from the General Store!)

 ·         Michael Arenella and His Dreamland Orchestra – The world’s premier Jazz Age dance orchestra specialized in the Hot Jazz of the 1920s led by conductor, musician and crooner Michael Arenella who presents his one-of-a-kind songbook, transcribed in his own hand

·         Gregory Moore and The Dreamland Follies – An Art Deco spectacle evoking Ziegfeld-esque grandeur

·         Roddy Caravella and The Canarsie Wobblers – This fun-loving dance troupe conjures the rebellious and joyous spirit of the Flaming Youth

·         Gelber & Manning Band – Feuding vaudevillian lovebirds quarrel, coo and make beautiful music together

·         Additional featured talent includes Queen Esther, who pays tribute to jazz royalty of yore, Molly Ryan, known for her silvery voice and lush, elegant vocal style, Peter Mintun, the world’s greatest piano man, and The Minsky Sisters, tap dance darlings who delight with fancy footwork

Returning, by popular demand, are the Jazz Age Lawn Party special contests and activities, some of which include:

·         Charleston Dance Contest (Saturday events) and the all-new Peabody Contest (Sunday events): see who’s the Bee’s Knees in this lighthearted yet spirited dance-off

·         Dance Lessons: learn the hottest dance steps of the time from hoofer extraordinaire Roddy Caravella each day at 11:30 a.m. on the main dance floor

·         Annual “High Court of Pie” Contest (Sunday events): Bake your best and bring your pie(s) to the pie table by 2pm. Winners will be announced by 3:30 p.m. in categories including:  “Mom’s Best” “Best Savory” “Most Original” and “Hobo’s Choice” and new this year “Bandleader’s Choice” (word has it he’s a Georgia Peach!).  (For entry email:

·         Bathing Beauties and Beaus Promenade: pull that itchy wool number out of the mothballs and parade it for all to admire

·         Kidland: carnival games and prizes for junior gents and Flapperettes

·         1920s Motorcar Exhibition: get up close and personal with flivvers, Tin Lizzies and “Buttercup,” Gatsby’s very own 1925 Rolls-Royce “Twenty”

·         Vintage Portraits: immortalize yourself while perched upon one of our Paper Moons.

 The 11th Annual Jazz Age Lawn Party, the cherished New York City extravaganza that attracts 20,000 revelers to relive the zeitgeist of the 1920s, took place on June 11-12 with the second weekend taking place on August 13-14, 2016 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Governors Island. Suzanna, co-owns and publishes the newspaper Times Square Chronicles or T2C. At one point a working actress, she has performed in numerous productions in film, TV, cabaret, opera and theatre.
