Newark Yoga Movement held the 5th Annual Brick City Solstice today, moving the event away from Military Park and over the “rain” location at the Haynes Building. The event celebrated the International Day of Yoga and the Summer Solstice. The day was filled with calming yoga, meditation, laughter yoga, vinyasa yoga, ritual sun salutations, coffee talk yoga and more.
Classes guided by Newark teachers I’m So Yoga Newark, Newark Yoga Movement, Prudential, Let’s Do Yoga and some wonderful meditation guides.
Founder Debby Kaminsky had read about low graduation rates in Newark–in 2013 approximately 87.5% of students graduated high school in New Jersey as compared to 67.7% in Newark*. She knew that yoga would be an inexpensive way to help create positive change.
Newark Yoga Movement enhances the educational experience and provides easy access to increased peacefulness, focus and confidence as a complementary source of discipline and structure for all. Newark Yoga Movement meets every Newark child where they are, bringing them life skills through the practice of Yoga, breathing and centering at their schools and in their communities
