There is no denying the devastating effects of alcohol addiction in the country today. National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) says that overall $224 billion is lost annually due lost work productivity, crime and health complications. This is worrying because Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) says awareness of risks of drug abuse have increased triple fold over the last decade.

If your loved one is in the throes of alcohol addiction, it is time to capitalize myriad treatment programs available in every city. You can choose based on cost, residential considerations, level of addiction, and convenience, among other factors. With every program, it is also possible to get customized services to suit your loved one and enhance chances of full recovery.

Here are some types of treatment programs to choose from.

  1. Residential treatment: This is either short-term or long-term depending on the needs of the addict. These facilities offer 24 hours residential care in serene settings. The addict will be under attention and is expected to live-in throughout the treatment programs. These can take a month up to six months and the addict undergoes treatment and re-socialization in order to recover fully and fit perfectly back into society.
  2. Outpatient: These alcohol treatment centers are effective for mild addictions. They are best for addicts who are in school or working. They also differ in terms of the intensity of treatment offered. They are also ideal for people with solid social support at home and offer convenience for the patient.
  3. Luxury treatment resorts: These are increasingly becoming popular with high-visibility personalities such as celebrities looking for drug treatment. They are exclusive resorts where treatment is intense and they offer more privacy.
  4. Individualized drug counseling: Most centers use the 12-step recovery program where each addict has a set of short-term goals to achieve. The person struggling with addiction works with a counselor to achieve these goals gradually on the path to recovery.
  5. Group counseling: While this is common in all treatment programs, there are those that use it as the only approach. Alcoholic anonymous sessions are the best example of group counseling and they have spread across the globe.
  6. Sober living: This is a new addition to the established treatment programs. Right after treatment, addicts are faced with the challenge of fitting in back to society. At this stage, they face a big risk of relapsing, but at a sober living center they are able to get cheap lodging and support before they are fully back on their feet. The agreement is that no relapse to alcohol is acceptable.

There are other programs available but the best idea is to pick a treatment center that fully suits the addict. It is important to consult them where possible. You should also look at the facility and assess whether it offers a serene environment where mediation and self-reflection are possible. It is also important to check whether the center is faith-based for a more holistic approach to treatment.

How To Help Your Adult Children

Published

on

By

As parents, your main job is to support your children and help them grow into happy, healthy, successful adults. You do this by providing guidance, advice, and practical things like food, clothing, and shelter. You’ll also do this by giving them love and letting them know you’re there for them.

None of this changes just because they get older, and although parents would hope their adult children are equipped with all the knowledge they need to live their own lives well, sometimes they will be faced with challenges, and it could be that the parents need to be there to help them. With that in mind, here are some of the best ways to help your adult children.

Have Open Communication

One of the very best things parents can do for their children at any age, and certainly as they grow into adults, is to make sure the children are aware they can talk to the parents about anything and everything. Keep your communication channels open at all times. Ensuring that you can both have frank and honest discussions about whatever it is you need to talk about is vital. When your child talks to you, make sure you don’t judge and listen carefully before offering advice.

If you can have these open communication channels, your adult child is more likely to come to you when they have a problem, whether it’s something serious like needing drink driving solicitors or something smaller like wanting some dating advice. After all, you can only help if you know what the issue is in the first place.

Financial Guidance

One of the biggest issues many adults have is linked to money. Once they start earning money, it can be hard to deal with it responsibly, especially if they have no major bills to pay and they are still living at home. However, this is a bad habit to get into, and it can lead to some big problems in life. Debt can be debilitating, and it’s an easy thing to get into.

This is why you should offer financial guidance to your adult children. Give them practical help when it comes to budgeting and saving and ensure they understand how to build a strong foundation for their future.

It might be that your adult children have some financial problems and need some help. How you handle this will be your choice, but if you decide to loan them money, make sure you have a proper agreement in place and ensure they pay you back – this will help them be more responsible and help you financially too.

Encourage Independence

It’s hard to let children grow up and be their own person; as a parent, you’ll always want to guide them, and you might have ideas about what they should or should not be doing. When they are children, you can have your say and do things to stop certain behavior or encourage it. However, when your children are adults, you no longer have such control, and that’s a good thing – your children need to learn how to be independent.

To help with this, you need to be encouraging about their choices and help them only when they ask you to. It’s important that they work things out independently and learn from their mistakes, but they also need to know you are there for them when they need you.

What You Need to Know About Choosing a Plumber

Published

on

By

When a plumbing issue comes up, it can often be quite pressing to find a solution fast. Plumbers, emergency plumbers and this type of job often need sorting in a short timeframe, but how is it possible to find someone quickly that you can trust to do a reliable job? Well, there are certain things that you need to know about picking a respectable plumber, and this guide has all the answers. Read on to find out more.

Their Reviews

There is a good chance that you found a plumbing recommendation through word of mouth or by asking on social media platforms like Facebook. This is fast becoming one of the most popular ways to discover local services in particular, and it’s great because it works! There will always be scams, and this can’t be avoided, but using social media and leaning on the reviews from people you trust in this context is a great thing to do. Not only are there written reviews on these platforms, but there are bound to be plumbers in the community that people will rave about.

Their Representation

The way a business opts to represent itself is a key factor in determining whether or not a customer engages with their services. If you see an actively managed social media page with fast responses, insight and a business who looks like they care enough to be involved, psychologically you are more likely to choose their services over someone who neglects the online world. It has become a benchmark for determining who will be suited for the job and who won’t, and in a lot of cases it does work.

The Initial Conversation

It is never recommended to hire someone without first speaking to them and gaining a sense of who they are and what they are able to offer. Often, one conversation is all you need to know to decide whether this is the person you trust to get the job done. The great thing about a serious plumber business like Yoder Plumbing is that they will always put customer service at the heart of what they do, alongside great plumbing skills too, and this is a great indicator that they’ll get the job done how you need it to be.

Their Qualifications and Certificates

Regardless of who you pick, they have to be practicing up to the required code otherwise your property is at real risk. If they are violating any regulations, your house may be unsafe, and your plumbing could fall apart fairly easily. There are always people out there with handy skills, but they haven’t taken the right tests to operate on their own two feet just yet. If you fall for these scams, you run the risk of losing money and having to start the process all over again. That is why you have to always check qualifications!

Finding a plumber, even when it is for an emergency, should always be researched first. Even if you only have a few short minutes, use it to read some past reviews and check out pricing. This is not something you can afford to get wrong, after all.
