A New York Water Taxi Loses Control And Slams Into Dock

A New York Water Taxi returning from a trip to the Statue of Liberty smashed into a dock at Pier 79. Pier 79 is located just off 40 Street along the West Side Highway. The Water Taxi was carrying 125 people and at least 30 passengers are injured. Those injured were taken to area hospitals according to the FDNY.  None of the injuries were considered life-threatening, though a child suffered a serious head injury.

Some of the people were standing, so when the taxi hit they flew forward. Problem is, people are too eager to get out,” stated a worker at the pier. “

The accident happened just after 4 p.m.

A rep for Circle Line Sightseeing Cruises, which owns New York City Water Taxi, said the incident is under investigation by the Maritime Association, which regulates the commercial boating industry in the port of New York.
