Accidental Shooting at Mamasita Bar and Grill

An off-duty correction officer accidentally shot himself and another woman Tuesday night, at about 8 p.m. at Mamasita Bar and Grill, 818 10th Ave., near West 55th Street.

Officer Mario Carrillo, 56, was arrested for showing off his service weapon after he ordered a Corona and a shot of tequila from the bar. He was sitting at a table of three police academy cadets. He was showing his gun to the people under the table and it went off.”

Mamasita’s owner Prakash Hundalani, 57 stated, “There was a big, loud boom. The dust was moving. His ring finger was completely gone. The rest of his hand was full of blood. He was yelling, ‘My finger is gone! Call an ambulance!'”

The bullet also hit the right foot of a 29-year-old woman sitting at the table. “She was a complete champ. She didn’t cry. She was very tough. She’ll make a very good cop one day,” stated Hundalani.

The two ended up at Bellevue Hospital, though why they didn’t go to Mount Sinai is a mystery considering it is only 3 blocks away.

Carrillo, lives in Manhattan and joined the DOC in 2011.

The matter is under investigation.
