64 plays and 22 shorts were selected to perform in the NYSummerfest 2017 Award ceremony this year. Each brought a unique story, perspective, and design that inspired and captivated its audiences. And each was required to enlist the bravery and inventiveness of live theatre that doesn’t rely on special effects, Hollywood stars and huge budgets. It’s been refreshing.

Tonight is a special night, with a night filled with several ties. 7 nominees competed for the Best Play or Musical Award of $3,500.

5 performers out of 320 were nominated for Best Actress, with the winner receiving $500. 5 out of 280 for Best Actor, with the winner also being awarded $500. 4 individuals out of 86 have been nominated for Best Director, with the winner receiving $500. 6 singers were nominated in the Best Singer category awarded $500, with additional prizes bestowed upon Most Creative Play or Musical $200, Best Stage Manager $200, Best Set Designer $200, Best Lighting design $200, Best Choreography $200 and Best Music Score $300. Three Short Plays were nominated in the best Short category with the best prize set to $300.
