Are the Myths Around Multivitamins Actually True?

Are the Myths Around Multivitamins Actually True?

Multivitamins have now become quite popular and there are a number of pharmaceutical brands which are selling them over the counter. However, as easily accessible they might be, it is important to remember that multivitamin capsules and supplements can never replace real food and the natural nutrients that one derives from them. Supplements are meant to replenish deficiencies which might occur from time to time, often due to stress, physical exertion or because of some illness which one might have suffered from. They should in fact, only be taken if a physician identifies a deficiency and recommends a certain supplement for it. Multivitamin for men are recommended for those who especially lead very stressful lives.

However, there is an argument that whether the multivitamins actually work or not and most researchers have concluded that they do, if taken in the right quantities. This is because an overdose of vitamins in the body is also going to bring about its own share of problems. In general though, they do have some benefits. Folic Acid, for example, is helpful in preventing birth defects and pregnant mothers are often recommended with such supplements if the doctors feel there is a chance for it. Multivitamin for women are hence, especially recommended at such times, or for aging women or women involved in strenuous physical activity or who are into body building and other kinds of sports.

Vitamin D helps in maintaining bone health. Along with Vitamin E, it also helps fight a number of allergy and helps with skin health. They also build and strengthen the immune system. Vitamin C is highly needed to improve the production of antioxidants in the body which fight free radicals and is one of the major causes of premature aging and in bringing about age related deficiencies in the first place. Low levels of vitamins may also cause anxiety and increase stress, which in turn can lead to other problems like high blood pressure and even diabetes.

On the other hand, the B Vitamins like B1, B2, B3 and B6 are important to maintain cardiovascular health. According to Physicians’ Health Study, continued lack of vitamins can result in cell mutation and lead to cancer and multivitamins can help combat it. Vitamin A, C, E and B3, also known as Niacin helps in improving eye health. Lutein and Zeaxanthin helps the eyes from the harmful effects of certain light waves, especially those emitted by computers and other such devices. What should be noted in this regard is that water soluble vitamins like Vitamin C and B are not stored in the body and they have to be taken regularly to avoid any deficiency.

Thankfully, it is now possible to get access to multivitamins and other supplements from reputed brands like Purayati, who are now taking order online, with the supplements being delivered right to the doorstep. This makes it possible for those with extremely busy lifestyles to get easy access to their daily supplements, without having to visit their local pharmacy, and at a much lower price as well.
