Bombshell

The Playbill

The song-and-dance concert version of Bombshell, became a one-night-only event at the Broadway’s Minskoff Theater, which sold out in minutes. The fundraiser for the Actors Fund, defer costs by raising more than $300,000 on Kickstarter, the goal had only been $50,000. This was the largest theater Kickstarter in history. The event, raised $800,000. Hairspray duo Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman penned the songs, but their was no book, thus the concert.

Megan Hilty and Katharine McPhee

Megan Hilty and Katharine McPhee trading off in the role of Marilyn with “Let Me Be Your Star,” “Don’t Forget Me” and “Big Finish.”These were narrations by Debra Messing and Christian Borle. Christian Borle’s, “Don’t Say Yes Until I Finish Talking” and Jeremy Jordan’s “Cut, Print… Moving On” brought down the house. Hilty’s The National Pastime” was a sexual romp and the Act 1 finale, “They Just Keep Moving the Line” was done with bravado. McPhee won with “The 20th Century Fox Mambo.” Will Chase, who played the actor playing “Bombshell’s” musical’s Joe DiMaggio on” Smash”, joined Hilty in the romantic duet, “Mr. and Mrs. Smith.” Ann Harada sang “I Never Met A Wolf Who Didn’t Love to Howl” and Brian d’Arcy James debuted “The Right Regrets.” Donna McKechnie performed the two songs sung by Bernadette Peters on the show as Leslie Odom Jr. swung “(Let’s Start) Tomorrow Tonight.” Shoutouts were made to everyone from series creator Theresa Rebeck to NBC chief Robert Greenblatt to “Smash” executive producers Steven Spielberg, Craig Zadan and Neil Meron
