This week Brancott Estate elevated the summer party with a delightful soiree on Governors Island.
The wine tasting event was simply divine on Wednesday as guests gathered over spectacular views to experience the incredible portfolio.
At Island Oyster ground-breaking sommelier expert Derrick C. Westbrook brought a unique twist to the event with his music pairings as samplings of half-shells were enjoyed along with the exquisite Brancott Estate Sunny Side Up cocktail with Sauvignon Blanc, vodka, lemon juice, passionfruit liquor and mint sprig.
The cool breezes at the outdoor venue were as refreshing as the Brancott Estate sips. As the afternoon sky took on beautiful hues over the cityscape the early dinner took place.
During the seafood appetizer spread of ceviche, shrimp and Oysters Champagne, Brancott Estate Flight Song was sampled. The full-flavored wine is 20% lighter in calories, but certainly not lacking any points on taste. This lively wine opens with bursts of lime and gooseberry on the nose, and the citrus flavors carry through to the palate, joined by tropical and passion fruit notes.
A main course of Lobster Rolls made of Maine Lobster with herbs, fennel, lemon, dulse emulsion and pickled cucumber was perfectly matched with the Brancott Estate Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2020. This zesty and vibrant wine jumps from the glass, with highlights of pink grapefruit, citrus, and green capsicum. Passionfruit, grapefruit, and fresh citrus ignited the senses and brought grand sweetness and a lovely sensation to the dish.
For dessert, guests cooled off with ice cream as they took in the bountiful beauty of the Marlborough “B” Sauvignon Blanc 2019. Everything about this selection is sophisticated and a perfect way to top off a night this season. Named in honor of iconic vineyards, Letter Series wines are hand-crafted from grapes of the highest quality. Simply not enough positive words can be spoken about this wine. The richly textured palate features bell pepper and fresh citrus with an underlying herbaceous character and minerality, all bound by a crisp acidity that leads to a lingering finish.
Wines in the Brancott Estate range are considered the benchmark of New Zealand varietal wine making and have an international reputation for quality and consistency. Each wine is crafted in a style that epitomizes the unique character and flavor of the growing region.
