My guest Olga from PopImpreska Magazine and I picked the perfect balmy night to try out this gem in the sky. We started out with a Passion Fruit Frozen Margarita ($12) that was tart and refreshing and a Pina Rita ($14) made with Milago Tequila Reposado, Pineapple, Lemon, Ginger Syrup served on the rocks. Both drinks had ample liquor and hit the spot. We later tried the Guava Frozen Margarita ($12) and found it to be our drink of choice. For great deals on drinks Monday – Thursday Margaritas, Sangria and other specialties are only $8 from 5- 7 at the bar and lounge.
For appetizers we started with Guacamole ($13). We tried the Chipotle made with Grilled Corn, Cilantro, Lime and a touch of Queso Fresco and the Frutas with Mango, Apples, Pomegranate, Serrano Pepper, drizzled in Lime. Both were fabulous in their own way. I am a fan of Guacamole and honestly could not see fruit being combined with avocado, even though avocado is a fruit, but Cantina Rooftop wowed me. Fresh, visually inviting , each had a reason to order them. The Chipotle had a bite that was slightly spicy while the Frutas had a cooling effect.
We paired this with a Gringa ($11) Fresh Corn Tortilla, Qaxaca, Squash Blossoms, Avocado and a dash of Morita Salsa. I have to say this was my favorite dish of the night. Gluten free, the vegetarian the smokey flavor was extricating and you felt healthy while throughly enjoying this dish.
For dinner a Jicama Salad ($11) Mango, Arugula, Lime Vinaigrette, Cotija Cheese, Tajin which Olga managed to devour, claiming it was the best salad she had ever had. Carnita Taco’s ($13) filled with Crispy Pork, Pico de Gallo and Guacamole had a lovely crunch and the perfect blend of spices. Served 3 to a plate this was a generous dish. Grilled Short Ribs ($29) included Charred Jalapeno Chimichurri, Roasted Potatoes with Arugula & Avocado Salad. The meat melted in your mouth and the plate was in itself a perfect meal with flavors bursting from every bite.
Finishing off the night, perfectly cooked Churro’s ($10) with Vanilla and Chocolate dipping sauces and a Strawberry Tres De Leche Cake ($10).
