Christmas Mountain Opens To Spread Holiday Cheer

Christmas Mountain Opens To Spread Holiday Cheer

Christmas Mountain will have a free opening night celebration on Thursday, December 1, and run through Monday, January 9, with new episodes every day through December 21, and 24/7 in-person and online accessibility at for the duration of the exhibition.

Christmas Mountain, window installation/advent calendar/mini series, opens at WNYC’s The Greene Space , 44 Charlton (corner of Charlton & Varick Streets) (take the 1 train to Houston Street; C/E to Spring Street) (and online) after the final sunset of November. The adventure will unfold over 21 days, culminating on the Winter Solstice.  If you’re local to NYC, new episodes will be revealed on the diorama each day at a very special time, TBD. But you don’t have to visit at that time to watch—you will be able to trigger episodes that have already been revealed at any time of day.

If you’re not in NYC (or don’t plan on visiting the diorama every day), but still want to know what’s going on, sign up for our Christmas Mountain Advent Email, and we’ll drop an email in your inbox every morning with a new episode reveal on our website.

Opening night will feature a conversation with research lead Allison LaPlatney about the history of Christmas in New York (and beyond)—and how that history has wormed its way into Christmas Mountain. Plus snacks, booze, cheer, and general holiday revelry.

Christmas Mountain is one of the most accessible projects Piehole has made to date: it’s free, and it’s both local and global!
