Common Mistakes People Make When Trying to Lose Weight

Trying to lose weight can be a drag. Sometimes it feels like it is happening too slowly or not at all. You may be getting frustrated because it is not going like you expected. You are not alone; many people going through the weight loss journey feel the same. Your stagnation may not be because you aren’t making any effort but because of a few minor mistakes people make in their weight loss journey. The beauty is that once you know them, you can work towards improving on them. They include:

  1. Exercise moderation

Every weight loss journey is different because there are different ways to achieve the goal. Some people may decide to exercise to shed weight while others may choose dietary methods. Whichever way you choose to go, exercise is important. However, you need the right amount of exercise. Too much exercise puts too much stress on your body, which is unhealthy and may lead to other issues. On the other hand, no exercise causes your body to lose your lean body mass as you shed fat, slowing down your metabolism.

  1. Expecting a drop in weight immediately

Most people start the weight loss journey thinking that once they follow their diet or exercise for a few days, the scale will automatically drop. They become very disappointed to learn this is not the case. The truth is, our fluid retention and hormonal changes also influence the weight we see on the scale. To be on the safer side, evaluate yourself by what you see and how you feel. You can even take waist measurements monthly to see changes. You can read more at

  1. Being inconsistent

Whatever method of shedding those extra pounds you choose is entirely up to you. However, one thing remains clear across the border. If you are not consistent, it will not work. You will just have wasted your time and your trainer’s time if you have one. Here is the thing; if you decide this is what you want to do, then do it to the best of your ability. If it is a diet method, follow the diet as much as you can. Stay packed on healthy food all through. Do not have too many cheat days. If it’s exercise, try go to the gym as many times as agreed and while you are there, give it your best.

  1. Dietary needs and expectations

Well, we all want that fast track to losing weight and getting the body we have always desired. Because of this, we get easily tricked into thinking that there are magical diets. These diets may be packed with more sugar than what you normally eat. So instead of dropping pounds, you end up gaining them. You should definitely check what you eat and try make it as nutritious as possible. You can do this through monitoring your fat content, increasing protein intake and packing up on fruits and vegetables. You could also visit a nutritionist for help.
