The 2016 Tony Honors for Excellence in the Theatre goes to three distinguished Broadway veterans: entertainment lawyer Seth Gelblum, master vocal coach Joan Lader, and costume shop proprietor Sally Ann Parsons. These honors are presented at the Tony Honors Cocktail Party, a private cocktail reception at the Paramount Hotel’s Diamond Horseshoe. The American Theatre Wing’s 70th Annual Tony Awards, hosted by Tony Award winner James Corden, will air on the CBS Television Network on Sunday, June 12, 2016 (8:00-11:00 PM, ET/delayed PT) live from the Beacon Theatre in New York City.
Among the guests was Best actress in a play nominee Lupita Nyong’o, who looked radiant as she posed with her director Liesl Tommy. Lupine goes head to head with Jessica Lange, Laurie Metcalf, Michelle Williams and Sophie Okonedo.
Her two co-stars in Eclipsed Saycon Sengbloh and Pascale Armand will be competing in the Best Supporting Actress category against Megan Hilty, Andrea Martin and Jayne Houdyshell.
The Danai Gurira drama closes June 19th and following its 17-week run at the Golden Theatre, Eclipsed will play a limited engagement next spring at San Francisco’s Curran Theatre. Eclipsed made history as the first play on Broadway to be written, directed, and performed entirely by women.
On Sunday, Wyong’o and the cast were surprised backstage by Sarah Paulson.
The Color Purple Star Cynthia Erivo posed with Pascale Armand and Best Supporting Actress for a Musical Nominee Adrienne Warren. Co-Star Danielle Brooks is also up for the award as is Jane Krakowski and Renee Elise Goldsberry.
Oprah Winfrey showed her love for The Color Purple gang.
The adorable and Drama Desk winner Christopher Fitzgerald showed his impish smile.
But of course this year the Tony’s is all about Hamilton and The Humans.
