Debra Messing

This morning the SAG Foundation presented a Q&A with the talented Debra Messing. Messing talked about her love of theatre, of working on Smash and of getting to sing. The audience was show an episode of the new “Will and Grace” that showed Messing singing a rather off key operatic version of “Green Finch and Linnet Bird” from Sweeney Todd. The episode also starred Broadway favorites Jane Lynch and Andrew Rannells.

Ms. Messing talked about how the cast was not sure they wanted to come back, but decided that ten episodes would be fun. They were not prepared for an extension of episodes let alone a second year.

When asked what advice she would give young actors, Ms. Messing replied study. Even if that means gathering a group of friends in your apartment and you do a reading of The Cherry Orchard. Actors always need to be prepared.
