Rising from the remnants of Pier 54, Little Island welcomes New Yorker’s and tourists to explore, relax and seize the day.

In 2013, Barry Diller/ Diller-von Furstenberg Family Foundation in partnership with Hudson River Park Trust took Pier 54, which had recently been damaged by Hurricane Sandy and reimagine the space as an entirely new type of public space.

The goal was to create an immersive experience with nature and art.

Heatherwick Studio explored the idea of designing a new pier that could draw from the remaining wooden piles from Pier 54.

Here children create their own melodies by stepping to the tune of breezes.

The landscape design was conceived as a leaf floating on water – a space that could be both visually surprising and inspiring for New York City.

Little Island is 2.4-acres located on the Hudson River off of the West Side Highway with entrances at West 13th and 14th Streets.

To support safety and social distancing, timed entry reservations and added safety precautions are in effect. Book your timed entry reservations here.
