Fuel Your Wanderlust Thru These Affordable Vacation Tips

If you are itching to travel to new destinations, but you just can’t afford it, it can be really frustrating. Fortunately, there are some great alternative solutions that will cost you very little money. You just have to try new things that you hadn’t thought of before.

Here are some affordable vacation tips to help you fuel your wanderlust:

1.      Visit a city not too far from your home

You don’t need a big budget to explore new adventures. You will be amazed at the number of places you haven’t explored that are within driving distance from your home. Just pick one of those places and head out for a weekend getaway or a day trip.

2.      Go camping

Camping is one of the most affordable vacation activities around. Even if you don’t own a tent, you can borrow one from a friend. Alternatively, you can opt to rent a cottage, yurt or cabin. There are so many fun activities that go with camping such as kayaking, hiking and barbequing.

3.      Take a tour of your own city

Even touring your own city can be great fun. There are many sights and sounds within your local area that you’ve probably not experienced. A good place to start would be a nearby historic home, museum or art gallery. You can even decide to explore a famous local neighborhood and mingle with the people there.

4.      Use discount websites to book a getaway

Discount websites such as Travelzoo and Groupon have great offers for people who want to go on international excursions or weekend getaways on a budget. You can get a discount of up to 50% on a hotel room at a 5-star hotel in a big city. You may also want to learn how to book the cheapest flights in order to save even more money.

5.      Extend your business trip

Whenever you are away on a business trip, you can extend your stay by a few days in order to explore the destination. If your company is paying for the plane tickets, the only thing you will need to pay for is your hotel stay. If you have been staying at a very expensive hotel, you can look for a more affordable alternative.

6.      Take a road trip

If you drive a car whose gas consumption rate is not very high, you will thoroughly enjoy your road trip at a very low cost. Plan all your stops in advance to avoid expensive last-minute accommodations. Another great way to save some money is to travel with some of your friends with everyone chipping in on the fuel cost.

7.      Volunteer abroad

If you have enough free time on your hands, going to a different country for a good cause can be a great way to fuel your wanderlust. You can find a good number of volunteer organizations online that will give you some ideas on how to go about the entire process.

Travelling comes with many benefits. It’s always a great opportunity to learn more about the world and meet new people. If you don’t have enough money for an expensive trip, these tips should help you satisfy your urge to travel without having to spend a fortune.
