Fun Food Festivals This Fall

Fun Food Festivals This Fall

Fall is officially around the corner and that means it is food festival time. Here are a few favorites that are must to attend:

The 14th Annual Vendy Awards will return to Governors Island Saturday, September 22nd from 12:30-5pm EDT. Called the “Oscars of Street Food”, the Vendy Awards is an annual street food competition and fundraiser for the Street Vendor Project, a non-profit organization that provides legal representation and advocacy for street vendors.

The Vendy Awards is the annual street food competition giving attendees the opportunity to sample from NYC’s best street food vendors. Many of NYC’s most famous carts and trucks first made their name at the Vendys, and this year will be no exception. Twenty-five vendors are selected by public nomination, and the winners are chosen by attendees and a panel of well-renowned judges.

“Street vendors are such a vital part of the NYC food scene,” said Executive Chef Bill Telepan. “I always catch a bite from them whenever I’m running around town, and am excited to taste what the competitors have to offer this year!”

In partnership with Trust for Governors Island, The Vendy Awards serves as the main fundraiser for the Street Vendor Project at the Urban Justice Center. With more than 2,000 active vendor members, The Street Vendor Project is working to create a vendors’ movement for permanent change. SVP publishes reports and file lawsuits to raise public awareness about vendors and the enormous contribution they make to our city. They also work to help vendors grow their businesses by linking them with small business training and loans. Now more than ever, these funds are sorely needed to protect the immigrant culture that makes New York a city unlike any other.

Tickets are currently on sale. General Admission tickets are available for $100 and $170 for VIP. General admission for kids 8-12 is $60 and under 8 are free. Purchase tickets here: http://www.vendyawards.org

Cannonball Productions is bringing its highly acclaimed, nationally-touring Bacon and Beer Classic  to the USTA National Tennis Center in Queens on Saturday, September 29th. Play giant Jenga, bob for bacon, and pose with friends on the court, all while indulging in unlimited suds and grub. Choose from three ticket types: General Admission, Power Hour, or VIP. General Admission tickets begin at $69 and span to $135 for the Afternoon VIP session.
