Fun Home’s Emily Skeggs Is About To Show Off Her Shakespearean Jazz Roots

THE GREEN ROOM 42 – Broadway’s newest intimate concert venue – has announced the return of “The Shakespearean Jazz Show” featuringFun Home star and Tony Award nominee Emily Skeggs and the Nine Worthies jazz ensemble in the exciting and original “The Shakespearean Jazz show” for two nights on Friday, February 2 and Friday, February 9.The show is directed by Emily Grill, produced by Ari Conte and Emily Grill, and features original music by Patrick Greeley.

“The Shakespearean Jazz Show” is a wildly entertaining and one of a kind evening that re-contextualizes Shakespeare’s work in an unexpectedly magical and wholly engaging way. The Nine Worthies, the talented troupe of performers who drew their name from William Shakespeare’s Love’s Labor’s Lost, feature Adrian Aielleo on guitar and mandolin, guest artists P.J. Duffy on bass, and Alex Bender on Trumpet, composer Patrick Greeley on piano and clarinet, Adam Salameh on percussion,  and Sheldon Brown, Daniel Irwin, Jenna Rogalski and Tony Award-nominated actress Emily Skeggs on vocals.  

A rave review of “The Shakespearean Jazz Show” from praised the show as “a triumphant tour de force that pristinely blends Shakespeare’s poetry with a catchy New Orleans jazz beat” with Cabaret Scenes calling it “an innovative, vibrantly colorful, high energy show…a killer presentation that brought the house down.” The show masterfully marries the words of the bard with the beats of jazz, combining upbeat and exuberant music with the timeless text.  

“The Shakespearean Jazz Show” has previously been seen at ArtsEmerson in Boston, The Shakespeare Festival at Tulane University in New Orleans and the New York Musical Festival.

“The Shakespearean Jazz Show” will be performed at The Green Room 42 (570 Tenth Avenue at 42nd Street, on the 4th Floor of Yotel) at 9:30 PM on Friday, February 2 and Friday, February 9. THE GREEN ROOM 42 will soon celebrate its year anniversary as the theater district’s premiere destination for live music and events. The 140-seat space lets audiences experience shows up close and personal. During the shows, guests can enjoy Mediterranean-inspired dishes alongside signature cocktails, craft beer and wine with no food/drink minimum. Sarah Litzsinger and Kate Reinders team up for their Green Room 42 debut in TASTiSKANK: Smoke ‘n Mirrors. Known for their roles in Something Rotten!, Wicked, Amour, and Beauty and the Beast, Kate and Sarah are two Broadway gals and real-life best friends who teamed up in 2006 to create TASTiSKANK, their singing-songwriting comedy duo. They were voted the 25 Sexiest New Yorkers by the New York Post and have over 1.2 million views of their tune, “The Sex Song” on YouTube. They have performed at Ars Nova, the UCB, Caroline’s, Comix, the TBS Comedy Festival in Las Vegas, and won the 2007 Breakout Award at the HBO Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen.

The Tony Award nominated star of Broadway’s Miss Saigon bring back her show which has been extended regularly since it first debuted in the fall of 2017. The evening takes the audience through an evening of pop ballads, jazz standards and musical theater favorites, including songs made famous by Amy Winehouse and Frank Sinatra. In this intimate evening of music with a wonderfully colorful set list, Eva sings from her heart and reveals a side of her story you’ve never heard.

This musical theatre actress has managed to balance married life in the country and a hectic city schedule, while pursuing that elusive first Broadway Show. Jen has earned her chevrons with productions of LES MISERABLES, Evita, Ruthless!, Into the Woods, Fiddler on the Roof, among them, and has cut her cabaret teeth on previous club appearances at Joe’s Pub and Feinstein’s/54Below. She’s now bringing her latest show with fresh material and continued “Tales of Adventure” to The Green Room 42. Her show is directed by longtime pal Richard Jay-Alexander. Joseph Thalken is Jen’s Musical Director/Arranger/Accompanist and leads the hot band featuring Perry Cavari and Dick Sarpola.

Suzanna, co-owns and publishes the newspaper Times Square Chronicles or T2C. At one point a working actress, she has performed in numerous productions in film, TV, cabaret, opera and theatre. She has performed at The New Orleans Jazz festival, The United Nations and Carnegie Hall. She has a screenplay and a TV show in the works, which she developed with her mentor and friend the late Arthur Herzog.
