Get Ready for Great Events in New York

With the weather warming up a bit it is a wonderful time to get out there and socialize at fundraisers and other grand events.

Pietro’s Fight Night Round VII will take place on Friday March 15, 2019. The nonprofit organization dedicated to raising awareness and funds to find a cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). It was founded by Manni and Dayna Scarso in 2012 after the couple learned the devastating news that their then-three-year-old son Pietro was diagnosed with DMD – the most common and lethal childhood genetic disorder in the world affecting one in every 3,500 male births. Rappers Fatman Scoop and Chubb Rock will perform at the fundraising event, and nightlife lawyer Sal Strazzulo will be honored with the ‘Cure Fighter Award’ for his long-term support of Pietro and the Scarso family.  The mission of Pietro’s Fight is to increase worldwide awareness of DMD, with the purpose of raising and appropriating funds for research that will realize a cure for this fatal disease and ensure that children like Pietro have the opportunity to enjoy a full life. And, one last easy way to give back – vote online for a hometown hero. Diane von Furstenberg announced this year’s People’s Voice Award nominees, one of four honors recognized at the 10th annual DVF Awards. Every year Diane selects four incredible women to be nominated for the People’s Voice Award, chosen by the public. This year, New York City resident Yvette Alberdingk Thijm, Executive Director of WITNESS, is one of the four finalists. Voting is now LIVE on DVFAwards.com and will remain open until March 24 when the winner will be selected.

Diane has always been an advocate for female empowerment and has made it her passion to honor women and provide them with the resources they need to continue their work. The winner of the People’s Voice Award receives $50,000 to further their cause, which would help WITNESS continue their cause and provide countless women, New York-based and beyond, with the tools and support to keep them safe and identify crucial situations where video can work to expose injustice.
