There are some amazing events coming up in New York this summer. Get ready to raise funds for great causes all while having fun.
Starting to top off the season, Publicolor will celebrate its 21th Anniversary at their annual gala, Stir, Splatter + Roll, on May 22, 2017 at the Metropolitan Pavilion (125 West 18th Street, New York City). The evening’s colorful cocktail hour begins with 19 painting stations where guests participate with some of NYC’s leading artists, designers, and architects to create customized tote bags. Tyvek jumpsuits are provided to insure guests’ eveningwear remains paint free. Cocktails and painting begin at 6PM followed by dinner and program at 7:30PM.
In recognition of Publicolor’s important work in our schools the New York City Schools Chancellor, Carmen Fariña, is the evening’s featured speaker.
This year Publicolor honors longtime board member Deven Parekh and his wife, Monika for his invaluable leadership and their steadfast generosity and Barbara + Donald Tober in recognition of all they have done to advance design and education in NYC. A posthumous award will also to be given to the distinguished designer and founding board member of Publicolor Jeffrey J. Osborne. A special Catalysts for Change Award will be presented to the architects Diller Scofidio + Renfro for their incredible work changing the landscape of NYC; Elizabeth Diller will accept the award. The event’s master of ceremonies is again Publicolor’s longtime friend, Jeffrey Banks.
Founder Ruth Lande Shuman said “When we started Publicolor in 1996 I set my sights on improving the lives of neglected NYC public school students, their teachers, families and communities. I was alarmed by the students’ low test scores and high drop-out rates, and appalled by the dreary and often prison-like facilities that operate as our middle and high schools. I knew by improving these students’ learning environments we would also be changing their attitudes. Now, 21 years later, Publicolor has painted 227 low-struggling middle and high schools, 214 community sites and playgrounds, awarded 256 students multi-year college scholarships and 132 scholarships this year alone, and worked with 23,000 volunteers.”
