The story goes that while playing Parcheesi several semi-intellectual Clearwater businessmen had a sudden urge for the taste of Buffalo style chicken wings. However there was no place to get what they desired so they open a place in Clearwater. The “Hooters Six” had a dilemma as to what to name the place. Simple. What else brings a gleam to men’s eyes everywhere besides beer, chicken wings and an occasional winning football season? Hence the name Hooters. Supposedly they were into owls.
Located at 155 West 33rd Street, perfectly overlooking Madison Square Gardens, Hooters was not what I was expecting. I honestly thought Hooters was going to be a guy hang out with big chested women scantily clothed, that isn’t what Hooters is at all. The girls are all good looking, young, but they are girls making a living. They definitely are attractive, but in personality, as well as looks. The shocking thing is there are just as many women eating here as men and even families. I was so delighted to find this establishment, thank-you, Gail.
Here the portions are more than generous and this is comfort food done really well. We decided to do an appetizer lunch and ordered way too much.
The first part was oh so touristy, but was such and enjoyable guilty pleasure, if you order a tasty cocktails in a Hooters Girl glass the drink and the glass is only $9.99*. I recommend the red punch.
We of course ordered wings and how fun they had eleven different sauces. We opted for two; Honey Thai Chili Pepper and Teriyaki. They also had Pork Wings in a kickin’ bourbon BBQ sauce with your choice of Bleu Cheese or Ranch. These were tender and mouth watering. You will not be disappointed with any of these wings and you get 10 for $13.99 and $1.19 for extra sauces. On Wednesday nights 10 Boneless Wings and Fries or Tots for $9.99 can not be beat.
If you loved Fried Pickles $8.99 these dill-licious slices are served with a horseradish dipping sauce that is the reason alone to order them.
The Steamed Shrimp $14.49 are served with drawn butter and are plentiful. But my favorite thing of all, was the Lotsa Tots $8.29 loaded with sour cream, bacon, chives and smothered in melted cheese. I know am asking for a heart attack, but seriously I would have the biggest smile on my face.
If this was not enough for dessert my favorite…..Key Lime Pie $6.29 and it is grrrrrreat.
This place is incredible with lunch specials, Monday-Friday from 11am-2pm, all under $9, drink specials and oodles of TV’s. This is the perfect sports bar and they even have coloring books for kids though they were not in view.
If you are looking for a Christmas party for your staff, I highly recommend this really tasty and affordable hidden treasure.

Hooter’s signature hot wings are the # 1 snack during Super Bowl viewing. Hooters sells more than 2 million wings across its more than 300 U.S. locations on Super Bowl Sunday, mostly for takeout orders. That’s 22,000 extra wings per restaurant (or three to four times Hooters’ average Sunday sales) and another 20 gallons of blue cheese sauce compared to a normal day. After trying three different kinds I know why!
