Great Summer Escapes for New Yorkers

Great Summer Escapes for New Yorkers

There are many options for the season when it comes to great escapes from New York. We can go out east to the Hamptons and to the coast at Martha’s Vineyard. But, for those seeking something with a different flavor a great option is to be found in Texas.

South Padre Island is easily accessible from several airports in South Texas such as Harlingen and Brownsville. And it is like getting a great getaway to Mexico without having to bring your passport. The island is full of beautiful stretches of warm waves, soft sand and other delights.

Accommodations are bountiful and full of several great selections to be found at Featured is the splendid Hilton Garden Inn that sits on the water and highlights fantastic views.

On Saturday nights the location hosts spectacular fire works that sparkle over the gulf as guests enjoy joyful live music and wonderful food such as shrimp baskets and tacos.

To add to the night is a full bar with beach favorites such as Bahama Mamas, cold beers and juicy margaritas. Sweet smiles match the environment and in fact it is the great attitude of locals that make the island shine bright.

Throughout South Padre you will find kindness as big as the state of Texas. Every where you turn from sitting on the sand to going out in boats you will find people there to share the joy.

And, unique to the island is the incredible work of Sea Turtle, Inc. In the summer you might be lucky enough to catch the famous Kemp’s Ridley Turtle hatching at Beach Access #3. Five decades of work by the organization have helped the turtle recover from near extinction. Less than one million people in the entire planet have ever witnessed the sea turtle hatching release and it is a wonder to see.

It is just another unique experience that South Padre Island has to offer. Any New Yorker will certainly appreciate a trip down to Texas and this beautiful weekend escape.
