HBO And Porn Hit Times Square

HBO And Porn Hit Times Square

September 10th, HBO is about to reveal what the 70’s were like in Times Square when porn ruled the Great White Way. Today a clip for “The Deuce” created by George Pelecanos and David Simon ( The Wire) and starring James Franco and Maggie Gyllenhaal was released. “The Deuce” follows the story of the legalization and subsequent rise of the porn industry in New York’s Times Square from the early 1970s through the mid-1980s. The billion-dollar American sex industry not Broadway was the blemish in Times Square. Themes explored include the rise of HIV, the violence of the drug epidemic and the resulting real estate booms and busts that coincided with the change. Franco plays Vincent Martino, a struggling bartender, and Frankie Martino, his mob connected brother. The Martinos were key players in Times Square who provided fronts for the sex industry’s early days. Gyllenhaal plays a prostitute.

The pilot was directed by Michelle MacLaren who worked on “Breaking Bad” and “Game of Thrones.”

The eight-episode series premieres September 10th on HBO. Could this be the new “Law and Order” for New York actors?
