Health Risks That Might be Present in Your Home

Health Risks That Might be Present in Your Home

With how much we spend buying and fixing them, there is no doubt we love our homes. It is a place to spend time with friends and family and truly be yourself. While a home is where people go for safety and security, there are plenty of health risks present right in your home.

Now, of course, there are risks like potentially burning the house down and things like that, but not all health risks are that clear and obvious. Your home has plenty of things in it that might look fine but may come with potential health risks you didn’t even know about. With that in mind, this article is going to look at a few unexpected health risks that could be present in your house.

Mold From Water Leaks

Sure, mold can be visible and easy to identify, but it can also be hidden and hard to identify. See, not all types of mold are going to smell or be visible right away. Mold can hide deep within your walls for weeks or longer before they are detected. Most mold is caused by increased moisture in the home, often from leaky pipes.

By the time you see or smell the mold, it could have not only damaged your home, but also your health. There are several health risks associated with mold. This can range from simple coughs and throat irritation, to serious lung infections. As a result, you want to be proactive in your battle against hidden mold. You should be sure to have a plumber Hills District come out and inspect your pipes every now and then to ensure they are intact and not leaking.

Your Pets

People love their pets. Worldwide, there are billions of animals kept as pets. There is no doubt that pets are great and can really complete a home. They are fun, provide companionship, and offer us as humans several other benefits. However, it is also possible that your pet could be a giant risk to the health of you and your family.

Animals and pets are, unfortunately, breeding grounds for infections if they haven’t had their deworming, shots, or vaccines. They can host parasites, bring in infections, and more. Even some flea collars contain chemicals that can be harmful to humans. Also, things like cat litter or pet excrement can also be incredibly harmful so be sure to deal with those as soon as possible if accidents occur.

House Plants

Having plants or flowers in your home is extremely pleasant for a number of reasons. It can increase air quality, they can smell good and can also add to the design of your home. However, it is important to know that even some sorts of house plants or flowers can potentially be dangerous to our health.

While many plants and flowers are only toxic if ingested or eaten, this can still be a problem. Most adults won’t be going around the house eating plants, but the same can’t be said for pets and even children. They are curious, and if something looks or smells pleasant, might try and eat it. Many commonly purchased and used house plants are incredibly toxic and could seriously harm your pets or children. As a result, be sure to vet plants before you buy them to ensure they are safe. The last thing you want is to get the wrong plant and have it end up hurting someone.

In conclusion, we hope that this article has been able to help you identify some potentially hidden health risks that could exist in your home. While you may not have any of these health risks present, it is still good to know about them anyways.
