Hot Events in the City

Summer is nearly over. It went so fast, but there is still time to enjoy some epic events this month and starting in September.

On August 15, Thrillist is hosting Savor the Summer at Pier A Harbor House.

Sizzling dishes hot off the grill, frozen delicacies, and refreshing beverages will make it a night to remember. New York’s favorite flavorfest is back and you’re invited to judge some of the best dishes the city has to offer. While you’re there, kick back and unwind with delicious ice-cold Hard Iced Tea from Twisted Tea, indulge in specialty summer cocktails courtesy of our friends at Tequila Don Julio, let loose in their summer gaming lounge, and so much more.

Tickets are on sale here.

This summer, Howard Johnson by Wyndham is giving New Yorkers a “sweet-peek” at its newly redesigned guest rooms with a one-of-kind pop-up event sure to put a smile on the faces of guests of all ages.

HoJo’s Sweet Escape is your chance to check-in to the city’s newest accommodations: an all-candy recreation of Howard Johnson’s new retro-cool-inspired hotel rooms, featuring modern design with a playful nod to the nostalgic days of orange roofs, ice cream and family road trips. HoJo’s Sweet Escape is open to the public on August 22 and 23 between the hours of 12 p.m. and 7 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome, but ticket holders receive priority entry. All ages welcome. Tickets here.

On August 22, Citi Taste of Tennis will mark its 20th anniversary in New York City with top American tennis player John Isner and award-winning chef and Top Chef Alum Richard Blais headlining the premier culinary and sports event at Cipriani 42nd Street, on Thursday. The fun continues with Citi Taste of Tennis After Dark, a delectable dessert-tasting experience from 9pm – 11pm. Ticket holders can enjoy trendy treats alongside hand-crafted cocktails, and top tennis players.

“Citi Taste of Tennis brings together leading chefs, top tennis players and ardent fans for an unforgettable evening, and we’re thrilled to return as the title sponsor for the 20th anniversary celebration in New York,” said Jennifer Breithaupt, Global Consumer CMO at Citi.

A portion of the proceeds raised benefit New York Junior Tennis and Learning. Tickets to the event are $300 and include unlimited food and drink throughout the evening. Citi clients are eligible to receive a 15 percent discount on general admission tickets. Group discounts are also available.

Jenny Fleiss, CEO and Co-Founder of Jetblack, and Sari Sloane, Founder of everafter, have made a pact to give back 5,000 filled backpacks to Good+Foundation for the 4ever Got Your Back campaign which will run from Sunday, August 11th to Sunday, August 25th. Complete backpacks can be purchased via the everafter website here and a school supplies wish list can be accessed here.

For those who would like to donate physical backpacks or supplies, everafter is accepting unused backpacks and supplies at the everafter boutiques in Tribeca, Upper East Side, Greenvale, Brentwood and Southampton from August 11th to 25th. Everafter vendors who have donated to this campaign thus far include Chaser, Spiritual Gangster, DL1961, State Bags, Roberta Roller Rabbit and Sam.

And, of course it is also the wrap of Summer Restaurant Week. There are so many great options around town including MIFUNE New York. The acclaimed Japanese restaurant that features refined Washoku cuisine in Midtown Manhattan is helmed by Executive Chef Yuu Shimano’s (Guy Savoy’s eponymous three Michelin-starred restaurant in Paris), who is assisted by Chef Tomohiro Urata, (three Michelin-starred La Maison Troisgros in Roanne, France). The new menus feature new dishes such as whole Japanese Ayu served with crème de mushroom, black cherry gazpacho, Alaskan King Crab with a Bleu Cheese espuma, and Chilled Sugar Snap and Clam Flan.

And next month, SHARE is thrilled to announce the 16th celebration of A Second Helping of Life, the annual benefit where famous female chefs and pastry chefs come together to serve their signature tastes in support of women facing ovarian and breast cancers.  To be held on Monday, September 23rd, at Chelsea Piers, this year’s sweet and savory evening will feature Barbara Sibley from La Palapa Cocina Mexicana as the executive chef of more than 25 of New York City’s top culinary talents.

“I am delighted to stand with other women in New York’s community of talented chefs at A Second Helping of Life to support SHARE’s work for women facing breast or ovarian cancer,” said Executive Chef Barbara Sibley.

All event proceeds benefit SHARE. For more information call: 212-937-5573 212-937-5584 or visit www.sharebenefit.org.
