Cantina Rooftop recently hosted the premiere after party for the musical I Like It Like That starring Tito Nieves, Rosemary Almonte, Ana Isabelle, Carded De La Luz, Chichi Del Valle, Shadia Fairuz, Joseph “ unique” Gonzalez, Angel Lopez, Gilberto Velazquez, Nelson Gonzalez, Sofia Kilmovsky and Yesenia Santiago. It was one sizzling party with live music and delicious dishes.
I Like it Like That is the story of the Rodriguez family living in New York City¹s East Harlem in the early 1970s, when music was the proudest expression of El Barrio. This production takes the audience on a historical musical journey amidst neighborhood volatility and social activism. It¹s residents dealt with the ever-present topics of escape and social conscience.
With fall here Cantina Rooftop (605 W. 48th Street) is offering up some fabulous options while the weather is crispy and beautiful. Culinary Master Chef Gonzalo Colin has created a luxurious modern Mexican menu. And, lead mixologist Nelson Lemus’ Mezcal libations are adding a festive kick to the menu that will have any New Yorker singing for joy.
The location has a selection of ceviches, guacamoles, molotes and tacos in addition to signature house specials including Lubina Chilena Pibil (Chilean Sea Bass, Achiote Americaine Sauce, Saffron Rice, Curtido De Cebollin), Barbacoa De Cordero (Maguey Braised Lamb Shank, Guajillo Sauce, Sauteed Kale, Comal Corn Tortilla), El Pato Tacos (Duck Confit, Charred Mango and Apricot Salsa).
The rooftop is now opened year-round and has a fully retractable rooftop restaurant that will provide New Yorkers and visitors from around the world with the perfect escape to Mexico in Hell’s Kitchen. Steps away from the Hudson River, Cantina Rooftop will feature a 20-seat bar and lounge and an 80-person outdoor dining area with a secondary bar. The restaurant will be surrounded by lush greenery, banquettes, communal and individual tables.
Nightlife industry veteran Pedro Zamora is the creative force behind Cantina Rooftop, a new dining experience in the sky. “With the re-launch of Cantina Rooftop, Stage 48 will fuse together all of the components of a perfect venue a live performance space that rivals major concert halls, a high-octane nightclub and premiere dining destination.” says Zamora. Cantina Rooftop’s General Manager Steve Steckel will oversee the entire venue and club’s day-to-day operations.
