The other day I was at Soho Smile for a teeth cleaning and one of the hygienists complimented me on my beanie and asked where I found it. Upon telling her, it led to an even deeper conversation right there – in my dental chair -on fashion. Imagine having this deep conversation on style at my local dentist office! Leaving the dental practice, it occurred to me ‘who doesn’t want to be more stylish in 2019’? After all, no matter your mood you can always make a statement with fashion.
However, I don’t know about you – but not everyone has that Kylie Jenner or Kim Kardashian wardrobe kinda budget. So, here are a few ways to spiff up that outfit – on a dime.
Don a Neck Scarf
Scarves are the one accessory that just about everyone has in their wardrobe. If you don’t have five or six, you at least have two or three. However, the irony is most of us never wear neck scarves – unless it’s cold outside. But here’s the rub, you can wear a scarf any time of the year.
So the next time you’re looking to jazz up that outfit, add a scarf. You can tie it loosely and let it hang, or give it a snug fit for a cleaner look. Either way, you can’t go wrong with a scarf.
Wear a Hat
Don’t be afraid to add a hat to your outfit. Makes no difference the type but to be on the safe side you should at least have one or more beanies, sun hats, berets, baseball caps, fedoras, boat hats, flat caps, and bucket hats.
Nothing inspires more confidence than a woman who can confidently rock a hat. While some of these styles are associated with men, women can wear them too and up their fashion flair in the process.
The key is to choose a hat that flows with your facial features. Also, color and fit can also go a long way towards accentuating any outfit, so be sure to keep this in mind when building out your repertoire.
Don’t Forget Those Shades
For those days where you just want to dress down in some jeans and a plain tee, there’s no better way to accent your outfit than a nice pair of sunglasses.
You don’t need designer labels either. In fact, if you don’t already have a few in your closet, you can easily pull this look off by shopping with any online retailer who sells their shades at wholesale prices. Whether you go with tinted lenses, aviators, embellished frames, or turtle shell shades what matters most is ‘proportion’.
Just make sure whatever you choose, the shades don’t clash with the contours of your face. For example, if you have a wide or round face, you’d do better with a wide pair of shades.
Cuff Your Jeans
Believe it or not, when it comes to cuffing your jeans there are countless considerations. For example, what type of shoes are you wearing, what type of jeans are they, etc.
In 2019 you’re most likely to see these types of cuffs:
1) the pinroll cuff – a tapered cuff that clings to the area just above your ankle, they’re great when you’re wearing narrow shoes without socks.
2) The skinny roll cuff – not to be confused with the pinroll, it’s a few untapered but tight rolls. They’re better when pairing skinny jeans with narrow shoes.
3) The simple roll cuff – just what it sounds like, a cuff made of two to three rolls. Looks great with just about any shoe, especially ankle boots.
4) The ironworker cuff – just one simple fold, about one to two inches in length. This look is perfect for days when you want to show off those boots.
You can take each piece of advice with a grain of sand. But the key point is do what best suits your personal style and personality and you can’t go wrong.
