How to Keep Your Skin Healthy

How good is your skincare regime? You may think you’re doing many of the correct things, but are you really? If you’re being honest with yourself, you will probably realize you can do better in some areas.

If you think having healthy skin is too expensive, takes up too much of your time or just isn’t worth it ­— think again. These are some of the best ideas on how to maintain your skin correctly, without costing too much money or effort.

Watch What You Eat

Making sure you have a good diet is one of the best ways you can care for your skin and antioxidants are a great resources for your body to fight disease and aging by reducing inflammation and damage (especially as inflammation is a leading cause of wrinkles). 

You can get antioxidants by consuming items such as:

  • Blueberries
  • Pomegranates
  • Spinach
  • Goji berries
  • Nuts and seeds
  • Dark chocolate (with 70% cocoa or more)
  • Organic green tea

Make sure you have rainbow-coloured plates of food as well. The different nutrient-rich foods we eat can neutralize the free radicals in our bodies that cause major damage to our cell structures. Consuming the widest range of antioxidants can fight off the different kinds of free radicals.

Drink Plenty of Water

Just a small amount of dehydration will mean that your body will work in a less optimal way. Being dehydrated will take a toll on your skin, meaning it will start to look dull, flaky, loose and saggy.

Limit Your Sun Exposure

Remember, whenever you go outside, the sun will reach your skin, no matter if it’s sunny or cloudy. So the best way to prevent sun damage to your skin is to avoid sun exposure; stay out of the sun from 10am to 4pm and find shade when you are outside.

Make sure you use sunscreen every time you go out into the sun. Use one that has an SPF of 30 or more as that will protect you from both UVA and UVB rays. Apply it 10 to 30 minutes before you go out and reapply it every two to three hours, or after swimming or if you’ve been sweating. Don’t forget to use a lip balm or cream with an SPF of 30 or more, too.

Have a Proper Routine

Treating your skin well will help take years off it. Also, don’t scrub your face: using a gentle cleanser or soap will remove any dead skin cells, plus any dirt and debris. Wash your face with warm water and then pat it dry.

You should also moisturize your skin regularly and be sure to do it when the skin is still damp. Putting on CBD cream, for instance, may help repair your skin.

If you wear make-up, try not to layer this on your face. Choose oil-free products and throw away any that are more than a year old. Remove make-up before you go to bed, too, as this can clog pores and cause acne.
