How to Look Fashionable During Vacation in a Tropical Country

How to Look Fashionable During Vacation in a Tropical Country

Pack your bags, lather on the sunscreen and grab your plane tickets! It’s time for that dreamy vacation abroad. Clear skies, sunshine and the sound of ocean waves will be the background for all of your social media posts in the next week. But what about your outfits?

Going on vacation, especially to a tropical country, is a great way to let loose of your everyday style and throw on something new and fun. It’s time to forget about your corporate uniform and standard happy hour looks. You’re going to a new country where you’ll dig your toes into the sand, sip on exotic cocktails and spend hours laughing and smiling. So why wear your same old threads? After all, it’s not every weekend you get to go out to a whole new country!

So take a close look at your closet and start a shopping list. You might need something fresh to show off. And we have nine top tips on what to bring to help you get started.

  1. Sunglasses
The first thing you should pack in your bag (and honestly keep in your carry on) is a pair of sunglasses. First, everything goes with a great pair of sunglasses. Second, you’ll absolutely need them when you’re out on the beach. Our suggestion? Buy a pair that look good and float, so you don’t have to worry while you’re out on the water. Check out Rheos Gear to see more of what we mean.

  2. Hats
Just like sunblock will protect your skin, hats will add an extra layer of protection. UV exposure is higher in tropical countries and SPF 100 won’t be the only thing you’ll need to not get sunburned. A great floppy straw hat just screams casual fun in the sun style. And it’ll prevent your scalp from burning.

  3. Swimsuits
Okay, this one might seem obvious but one thing to note is how much more humid it is by the ocean. That means the one swimsuit you thought you needed will take a significantly longer time to dry. No one wants to crawl into a damp and clinging swimsuit. So give yourself an excuse to go shopping and grab some more! (See tip #5 for a bonus idea!)

  4. Crop tops
You’re not in the office anymore, so keep your long sleeve silk blouses at home! It’s time to show some skin. Crop tops are great to throw on over a bikini or to wear with your shorts. You’ll show off your ever-growing tan and look ready to have some fun.

  5. Maxi skirts
This is one of those items you have no choice but to bring. A great maxi skirt will look perfectly flowy and romantic for a night out with your significant other. The fact is, maxi skirts are just multifunctional. You can dress them up or down and know that you’ll stay cool and look stylish. Pro tip: one piece swimsuits and a maxi skirt make an instant brunch-to-beach outfit.

  6. Flowy elephant pants
Jeans are great, but not for a tropical country. You don’t want to feel hot, stuffy or sweaty, so grabbing an oversized, flowy pair of pants (especially if they have a fun print) will emphasize your bohemian-chic style while still providing comfort.

  7. White sneakers
Don’t just pack away your flip flops when you’re heading out! No doubt you’ll do a lot of walking to visit tourist hot spots or go shopping. A white sneaker pairs well with any outfit, even with all those flowy skirts and pants we recommended. You won’t regret it when you decide to do that last-minute walking tour.

  8. Comfy sweatshirt
Was this the last thing on your mind and your list? It definitely shouldn’t be. A comfy sweatshirt will be more than your go-to piece for the plane. At night, as it gets windy, or during the day if it’s stormy, a sweatshirt will help you stay cozy. Pro tip: Pair with short shorts and your white sneakers for a day on the town. Casual comfort = effortlessly chic.

  9. Jumpsuits, rompers and one pieces.
There’s no easier outfit than one you can put on and be done with in just a zip. When you’re packing light to hit those hot destination spots, finding those one-piece outfits like a jumpsuit or romper will help you save a lot of space in your suitcase.

And there you have it! With these items in your bag, you’re sure to look better than the Instagram stars.
