OZZY FOREVER — Let me start off by admitting I was not a huge fan of Ozzy’s music … or, so I thought. Black Sabbath just wasn’t my jam, yet watching the tributes and the videos after his passing, I realized that their songs were ones I knew and loved. “Crazy Train,” “Iron Man,” No More Tears,” “Shot In The Dark” and “Paranoid” were just exceptional in every way. I think I was blinded by all the hype and the bat and all the babble. I never even watched the TV show, as again all the hype sort of turned me off.

Don Arden

One report I saw today said that Sharon has her father, Don Arden on the show, and it was just pure dribble. Say what you will, but Don Arden not only helped bring Ozzy to the forefront, but he also did the same for some group called ELO and the Small Faces. Wonder whatever happened to both of them? He also had his own record label, Jet Records (via United Artists Records), which was huge.

The tributes, from Elton to Duran Duran, Judas Priest and Rod Stewart were all heartfelt and all essentially said the same thing: Ozzy was a true innovator and there’ll never be another like him. I now agree. RIP.

SHORT TAKES — You know how they say you can’t go home again? Jessica Simpson on the Today Show Wednesday was quite a revelation. First: she’s gone country. Second: 2 new albums Nashville Canyon 1 & 2; and boy, did she look a lot different. It was her first appearance on the show in 15 years and it was packed. Her fans, who are a lot older now seemed a bit confused with the “new” Jessica. “I Think I’m In Love/With You” sounded terribly dated and her voice is not what it once was.; gasping for air several times. This appearance follows Simpson’s recent slot on American Idol where she performed “These Boots Are Made For Walking.” which a staffer called a train-wreck. Sometimes, you just can’t get back. A sad affair for sure … I missed the first HBO hour about Billy Joel – And So It Goes. I grew up on Long Island too, but really never became a fan. I brought an artist once to a Joel/Elton show and she ended up doing a duet with both of them which was pretty spectacular. But this first installment really brought a lot of chatter. I’m going to view it this weekend …

Jeffrey Epstein and Donald Trump from X

There’s so much in the news these days, but the Jeffrey Epstein imbroglio seems to be at the top of everyone’s list. My thoughts are it’d be terribly ironic if this is what brought the Trump-legion to a severe halt. I just know he’ll find some way to delay and defer, but it’s captivating for sure.

commission was back and headed up an inquiry. Say what you will, but he was a dynamo. The kids probably don’t even know the name, but trust me, it was appointment TV for sure back then … As we got to press, reports have surfaced that Amazon’s Jeff Bezos is weighing buying CNBC; most famous for its hilarious Jim Cramer show Squawk Box. Cramer always reminds me of Crazy Eddie! Google him … E News, launched in 1991, is coming to an end. Their last shows will air in September … Dave Mason and his book-scribe Chris Epting hosted a Facebook-chat Thursday night and was great to see Dave, who after a year of health issues looked haggard, but good. When asked about his biggest moment he replied coming back from the dead.Wow, didn’t expect that response. All the best Dave … RIP Hulk Hogan; Chuck Mangione; Michael Ochs; and George Kooymans.
