Seth Rollins was a part of the media conference called to promote the upcoming WWE pay-per-view event, SummerSlam. Where he was asked yet another time by the press to give his opinion on Jon Moxley aka Dean Ambrose. As we know from Wrestling News, the former member brother of Shield and Seth, John Moxley joined AEW after he left WWE.
“I was surprised by it for sure,” Rollins exclaimed.
“I knew Ambrose needed some time away from WWE but the thing is, he just loves wrestling, he loves the industry, he just wanted some freedom and do his own thing and that happens, you know? And that happens for everybody and I understand his position and why he wanted to go over there and that’s on him. But, now he’s competition, now he’s the one trying to take dinner off my table so good on him but we’re going to do our best to continue to be the best here at WWE and those guys want to step up to the big leagues to give it a shot? Then by all means but we’re goingto knock them dead just like we do everybody else.”
On the other hand, when Kenny Omega, AEW’s Executive Vice President, was asked about AEW’s possible clash with the WCW, he had an entirely different opinion.
“I think the difference between ourselves and WCW, for example, is that we’re not looking to compete with WWE. At least a big handful of us aren’t. Other people may have their own motivations or whatever, but, for us, we’re very much focused on just becoming the new wrestling alternative and I think in today’s new world with digital streaming services and such, a lot of wrestling fans, they’re going to watch everything anyway, and so I want people to enjoy [WWE’s] product if that’s what they’re into. Enjoy it. Watch it. I’m never going to do anything to try and undermine what they do. I’m never going to say, ‘Hey, this is a different take on what you did except we did it better,’ or whatever.”, said Omega.
WWE Results have been very predictable recently, and that has led to a significant dip in their ratings over the past year or so. Statistically speaking this is the best opportunity for All Elite Wrestling to emerge as a significant competitor and subsequent threat for WWE. And as we have noticed in Seth’s speech it’s certainly evident that WWE has been worried about AEW. The second thing that adds to this fact is that AEW has been joined by several ex-WWE wrestlers like Cody Rhodes and John Moxley. The fact that these wrestlers know how WWE works inside out might actually help AEW get an edge over WWE.
However at WWE, they have been trying to mask their concern regarding AEW very well but unfortunately, it is evident. It’s out in the open that there is going to be a war for popularity between the two organizations in the near future. Amongst other competitors of WWE are Ring of Honor, Impact Wrestling and New Japan Pro Wrestling. But to say, AEW is perhaps the only one which has got what it takes to dethrone WWE.
