Jon Stewart, former The Daily Show host on Comedy Central and outspoken advocate for NYC 9/11 First Responders, officially partnered with Burn Pits 360 to produce a PSA which brings national awareness to the injuries that millions of US Vets are suffering from toxic burn pit exposure.
“We are so grateful and honored to have such a powerful and influential voice to advocate on behalf of the millions of US Vets who are suffering from this silent and debilitating illness,” said Rosie Torres, founder of Burn Pits 360. “Jon’s fight to get the 9/11 first responders the appropriate funding to cover their health-related issues was powerful, and we hope his voice will do the same for our post 9/11 war heroes.”
Burn Pits 360 was founded in honor of Rosie’s husband, Army Captain Le Roy Torres who served in the US Army for 23 years. Torres returned from Iraq in 2008 and began to suffer from complications that were related to prolonged toxic fume exposure. After experiencing delay, denial of benefits and ineffective treatments, Le Roy and his wife Rosie were moved to start Burn Pits 360. Over the years, the Torres established an independent Veterans exposure registry where thousands of war heroes and their families reported the same suffering and denial of health care and benefits. “Our goal is to drive a viral movement towards this issue,” Torres added, “but more importantly, I hope millions of Vets who are silently suffering will sign up for our national registry so that lawmakers and the VA finally hear our war heroes voices and recognize their illnesses . We look forward to working with Jon [Stewart] to bring the fight to DC.”
Burn Pits 360 is the only non-profit Veterans organization advocating for those suffering from deployment related toxic exposures. As an organization we have built a registry of over 6,000 affected; lobbied for the national burn pit registry bill which was signed by former President Obama in January of 2013; spoken at rallies and symposiums on behalf of the thousands affected, and much more. Burn Pits 360 works closely and diligently with doctors specializing in deployment related exposure to bring forth the newest data and recommendations regarding the effects of toxic exposure. Our mission is to reintegrate, restore and build resilience through facilitating the unmet needs to warriors and their families through outreach, advocacy, education and research.
