Katdashiana Where Singing is More Like a Howl

Katdashiana Where Singing is More Like a Howl

If you like tacky theatre, mildly funny jokes, off key singing that boarders on mediocre kommunity theatre, then head on over to the Katdashians: Break The Musical at the Elektra Theater. Combining the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical Cats with the gossip page obsessed Kardashian clan, add drunk 20 something year olds who laugh at the crudest jokes I have heard in years and you have an idea of what you are in for. Kim, Khloé, Kourtney, Kris, Kendall, Kylie and Caitlyn have now all become cats, complete with kat khoreography by Viva Soudan, who also plays Kylie. Ms. Soudan’s khoreography is about the best part of this tedious, amateurish bland entertainment and at least the Katdashian can move well.

Carmen Mendoza, Bridget Kennedy, Elliott Brooks, Bailey Nolan, Viva Soudan and Ariel Ash all bare resemblances to their counterpoints. Peter Smith as Caitlyn gets the Memory song and does a rather decent job on it, but the acting or more importantly the singing is like yowling. To prove my point I am adding a video on youtube this group put up, with one of the parodies.

Audience members are encouraged to take selfies and Snapchat during the production with a free pair of sunglasses if you comply.

This katastrophic nightmare is written and directed by Bob and Tobly McSmith the same team that gave us Bayside! The Musical!, Showgirls! The Musical! and “JonBenet! Murder Mystery Theater. They are currently working on two more shows Anne Frank 2: Hungry for Vengeance (and Bread) and Philadelphia: On Ice.

This Katextravaganza is mind numbing, as it falls on it’s butt. Unless you are drunk or stoned you will be looking to dash, as my guest did at intermission. Me I was stuck in this liter box.

Katdashians: Break The Musical: Elektra Theater, 300 West 43rd St until July 17th.
